Disturbing video shows deadly shooting at Ohio gun-violence vigil

Disturbing video captures the moment bullets started flying at a vigil for a victim of gun violence in Ohio over the weekend — killing a passing motorist and wounding five others, including a 12-year-old.

A small group of people gathered at Dollar General on Chatterton Road in Columbus Saturday evening — to commemorate the death of Jarrin Hickman, who was killed there a year earlier — when someone fired shots from a passing SUV, possibly a Dodge Durango, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office

Video obtained by WSYX shows the driver briefly stopping before making a turn — and suddenly a group standing nearby started running.

One person is shown crawling on the ground and suddenly stopping in front of another car as the vehicle involved in the shooting drives off.

LaToya Carpenter, 39, was driving in her own car, passing the Dollar General store, as the shooting unfolded — and was hit in the head with a stray bullet.

She crashed into a car parked in the lot next to the store, and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Five other people, including the pre-teen, were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

“They really don’t know what they have done,” Carpenter’s sister Danyelle tearfully told the station. “They took somebody like the way they took her for no reason, no reason at all.”

“Every day when my kids leave the house, I worry I’m going to get the phone call that I received yesterday for my sister,” she added. “I worry every day. The violence is so bad in Columbus. I don’t even want to be in Columbus anymore.”
