About
Copenhagen's Nyhaven, or "New Harbor," is actually steeped in a long heritage. Colorful buildings line the canal and hint at a history of small-vessel traffic. Like many ports, this strip has a salty history, rich with sailors, drinking and literary exploits. Danish author Hans Christian Andersen made his home in Nyhavn as well. It's cleaned up now and is a lovely place for a stroll.

The area
Neighbourhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

- Jonathan C.478 contributionsnyhavnIt's a tourist hotspot, but also one of my favorite places to walk around in Copenhagen. The restaurants are quite pricey, so grab a snack and bring it to the water front. The houses here are iconic and this is the photo you see on every guide book for Copenhagen. Difficult to get in the cafes as they were always full but we did like the locals and sat with the drinks we had brought with us at the side of the canal . Great atmosphere,. Veer right at that end over the bridge with the cycle lanes and walk into area which is perfect for street food and drinks , music playing and more beautiful viewsVisited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten May 27, 2023
- WorldTravelerSoCalMilwaukee, Wisconsin288 contributionsNyhavn a madhouse on Sunday AfternoonsWe visited Nyhavn this afternoon on a SUnday when the sun was out for awhile. It was a madhouse of people. A lot of them wanted to go on the boat tours. Each boat was filled with people. The activities are eating, milking a beer, and walking the streets taking pictures along with boat tours. It's nice but be prepared to get slammed with a Lot of other people who want to go also.Visited May 2023Written May 28, 2023

Smoking ban is wonderful when compared to other European cities. Views of the canal and surrounding buildings are wonderful. Be selective of where you eat as we went to two restaurants here and one was an awful tourist trap and the second was amazing. Reminded me of Amsterdam! Be sure to pack a raincoat as we have not experienced one day in Copenhagen that didn’t have a period of a downpour!Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten July 3, 2023

Beautiful spot in the old harbour. Lovely buildings and plenty of restaurants and cafes. Canal boats are also here and give excellent tours. Easily accessible from town centre or by metro.

A beautiful part of Copenhagen and definitely a must visit. The buildings are lovingly restored and are resplendent in their gayly painted colours. There are canal rides that you can go on, and many of the buildings house a variety of restaurants, as well as the famous store selling waffles with ice cream and churrios.

A lovely hotel in the heart of Copenhagen. Great location, good breakfast and very attentive staff made out experience extremely pleasant. The actual building goes back to 18C and was tastefully and sympathetically refurbished. Should we go back to the Danish capital we will definitely stay there again.

Super pretty view and a must see when in Copenhagen. Would recommend going in the morning, as it gets really crowded over the course of the day. There are a lot of nice restaurants where you can eat while having a great view of Nyhavn.

there are many 7/11's ..these i would class as a kiosk.they are open 24 hours,coffee,tea,snacks,sandwiches,drinks..prices reasonable.Copenhagen on the whole is not a "cheap" city.regular supermarkets are reasonable.cheap- no- in comparison with other European cities, expensive, but not "unmanageable".depends what you are looking for

We got it at the airport; there's a booth right after you clear customs. It includes a lot: fares on subway, buses, Hop On/ Hop Off (I think), canal tours and almost every museum you'd want to visit.
