- Isabella I2 contributionsThe city view is a must visit. We had the chance to visit the museum and church. - Dobran OHannover, Germany25 contributionsThe Kaiserburg is one of the main attractions in Nuremberg: from the other sightseeing we did, this place drew the most visitors.
One can enter the castle without a ticket, although I would advise buying one if you want to see the museum, the 50m deep fountain, and the Sinwellturm. All three are worth it, in my opinion.
I was a bit disappointed by the museum. If you're a German speaker, you might not, but otherwise, there's a lot of information that's not available in English. If you don't speak German, you might want to ask for an audio guide when you buy the tickets. Some exhibits (not all of them) are marked as having information in the audio guide.
We didn't get audio guides since after visiting the German National Museum we expected that all information would be available in English as well.
As a history buff, the museum shop was a letdown. There were barely any history books at all, other than just a few tours and guides, and out of those, very few of them were in English.Written March 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The church and castle were worth seeing- castle is up a slight hill but all walkable areas.
It did rain on my visit day but still
A manged to have a nice afternoon.
I took a guided day trip from Munich but unless you really want a guided tour it is something you can do independently.
Bit your train tickets in advance and most of the area is walkable and it will make a pleasant day out of city of Munich- all near Nuremberg station and will be cheaper than the guided tour from Munich.Written January 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We stayed for about an hour – not enough time to go through all the exhibits or hear the testimonies, but (barely) enough to get a sense for what was there. What I had not realized before the visit was the extent to which the Nuremberg trials continued after the highest-ranking accused officials were tried – the trials continued for over another year, which meant that there were many opportunities for “new” lawyers to gain experience in what has become the field of international criminal law. Highly recommend a longer visit.Written May 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SortiesWoburn Sands, UK64 contributionsLike anyone visiting Nuremberg, a trip to the rally grounds was a must. I booked the €12-tour and frankly it would have been worth €100.
The exceptional guide, Marco, brought everything to life and was happy to reflect on the very obvious philosophical questions this place raises.
This tour revealed many shocking behind-the-scenes facts about how the grounds were conceived, the revolving propaganda surrounding them, and, ultimately, the Nazi's failure to complete the project, both physically and metaphorically.
There were moments when I was lost for words. One of them was the series of pictures and photos that give lie to the "we didn't know anything about it' post-war claims. A second was being able to stand exactly where Hitler gave speeches - on what is now a decaying and sorry looking monument.
For living proof that power is transient and that Nazi ideology was an elegantly choreographed illusion, this is the place to visit.Written March 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The exhibitions cover a wide range of topics spanning thousands of years, from Prehistory to the 20th century. Thus, one can learn about the political history of German-speaking people, military history, religion, crafts and arts, medicine, etc.
Some exhibitions were closed due to renovations, but that shouldn't be a problem since it's impossible to see all exhibitions in one day (I mean seeing, not just walking through them)
The exhibitions are very detailed, there's a lot of information and what surprised me the most was that all of it was in English as well. One might expect to find this in a big city such as Berlin or Munich, but for a city of Nuremberg's size, this sure was a pleasant surprise.
There are audio guides that I haven't used since that would have only taken us longer.
Only one thing that could be improved in my opinion: more English books in the museum shop. Also, maybe more souvenirs specific to the exhibitions, since most of the souvenirs there were quite generic to other museums.Written March 31, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. They have a small set up but enough to get the whole view of the history that happened in don’t give it 5 stars because i wanted them to explain a bit more the beginnings of the warWritten May 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GraeWestgateBournemouth, UK31 contributionsGenuinely one of the best zoos I’ve ever visited; a huge variety of animals, many of which I’ve rarely seen in zoos before, each in large and comfortable exhibits. The manatee house is simply outstanding. Do be sure to wear comfortable shoes though; I managed nearly 20000 steps traversing the whole park!Written February 14, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Travel with SeanMadison, WI527 contributionsIt's a beautiful church from the exterior. It was not open when I was there. It is located in Marktplatz which used to be the location of the local synagogue until the Jews were incorrectly blamed for a plague epidemic in the 14th Century. Some historians believe the Frauenkirche was built as penance for the anti-semitic violence.Written April 8, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - K'Elle ThorSan Diego, CA53 contributionsMy son loves trains, especially german trains! He was so excited and loved the whole museum. I liked the the retro part of the museum , made me feel old! Lol
Our son also liked the kinder “touch and olay” area and riding the little train.
Wish the model train display was operating but maybe next time.Written October 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - PavelBudapest, Hungary39 contributionsThis place is currently undergoing some sort of restoration, but probably at a slow pace, as there were no workers visible.
There are photos, how it looked before. It was completely demolished and a lot of work was done. But it is not enough yet - half of the place is closed for safety reasons, documentation center is closed too and the only information, you can get on boards is, how is are the restorations going, what is the intended state and how much it was damaged before. No relevant information on the history.
4* is the historical authenticity. If you are already in Nuremburg, dont miss it. If you plan to visit Nuremburg to see it, dont do that, you will be disappointed.Written September 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
