We used to come here when it was called The Silvery Tay but fewer trips to the area meant we hadn’t been for several years. We arrived in the area last Friday and decided we’d like a traditional fish and chips so we headed to The Silvery Tay in Newport on Tay only to find it’s now called Fifies. Feeling a bit disappointed but also feeling hungry after a long drive, I was determined to stick it out and give it a try. I was delighted to see that the owner(?) was still working there. It turns out that the name The Silvery Tay was sold and, this being Newport, across the Tay from Dundee in Fife, it was given the new name Fifies. During coronavirus things have changed. You have to place your order at the window a few meters up the hill and then join the queue. I missed out on about 5 places not noticing this however it was worth the wait. We both had haddock and chips and they were excellent. Great chips and the fish was tasty and nicely cooked. Fifies is on our list of places worth visiting again next time we are in Fife.

Built on higher ground than the High Street the church has a commanding view over the Tay , an active Episcopal church in the community .
The church is a Grade B listed building and was built in 1886-87 by the architect Thomas Martin Cappon, The organ and the lectern date from 1904, but the pulpit was not added till 1934.There is a fine rood screen made by George Fairweather
