Jersey City NJ, Hudson Catholic Regional High School in Jersey City (NJCU) is partnering with New Jersey City University to offer a new program that will allow its students to earn college credits starting this fall.
The two-year program will allow high school students to earn up to 18 credits towards a Media Arts Certificate that will be equivalent to a minor at NJCU. Eight media arts production classes will be made available to the Hudson Catholic students over the course of two academic years. Students also have access to NJCU’s Media Arts’ production facilities.
“These are exciting times for the school community of Hudson Catholic High School,” said Brother Christopher Hall, C.F.C., the Archdiocese’s newly-appointed Assistant Superintendent of High Schools. “Principal Terence Matthews, M.A., his leadership team, and the faculty are truly providing students with the opportunity to excel at learning through educational partnerships. Today, academic innovation is just one key to providing quality Catholic education in our growing and changing society.”
The new program is intended to benefit traditionally underserved student populations, particularly underrepresented minority students, in providing access to authentic and positive college experiences during high school. Additionally, the program serves to partially ease the financial burden of attending college after graduation. The program is free to enroll for eligible Hudson Catholic students. Additionally, The William E. Simon Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps inner-city youth and families primarily in Jersey City and the South Bronx gain access to education and community-based services that promote education, faith, and family values, graciously awarded a $55,000 grant to Hudson Catholic this year to fund their pre-college programs. They also created a $20,000 match challenge for any donor that contributes to the fund.
