The way the curriculum was set up did not at all prepare students for college, it was really simple and never challenged the students to their best ability. Overall the school as a whole was a good school, it was just the academics that failed the students in a way of not really preparing them to study or giving them the resources to study. Good school.
Initially arriving at Arts High School I was extremely scared and nervous. Due to my prior experiences in school I would experience bullying, hence my fear of school and large places. At arts I realized there were a lot of people with similar experiences to me, while also enjoying the same hobby/career field in the arts. At arts I found bonds within the small group of friends, helping and uplifting each other to grow emotionally and academically. I found safety within social worker Mr. Sean Lovell, as I had mental health struggles throughout my high school years, he would help to have my time accommodated and would guide me through difficult times. Mr. Sean Lovell was able to provide the school a sensory room for any student to wind down mentally, within my community and school in Newark there is growth and arts.
Arts high school has different majors such as vocal, Visual arts, Instrumental, Dance, Drama and TV production. Best part of my school is having friends from different majors and learning different things or perspectives from each other based on our major. Worst parts would probably be the school lunch. Either from that I really love arts I've learnt alot more about music being a vocal major and its been a great experience.
I went to Arts High School for 5 years. I got accepted early during my 8th grade year and I loved it and ever since. It’s not like highschool musical but it’s even better. I think that when going to a performing arts school it challenges you, it tests your ego, your confidence and your respect. I loved being in highschool especially going to Arte High School because I was always encouraged to just be myself and do what I love.
Overall, Arts High School has a huge focus for he arts. You can major in dance, visual art, tv production, vocal and drama. My experience as a visual arts major is great there is a focus of different art styles and mediums.
Newark Board of education as an organization does not focus on the education or needs of the children. However, the teachers, faculty, and staff within this specific school are absolutley amazing, just lacking a lot of funding
I like the interaction of Art. It's dominantly Core classes as well as Art Majors. It is a diverse population.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ARTS HIGH SCHOOL. I AM SO HAPPY THAT MY DAUGHTER GETS TO HAVE A " FAME" EXPERIENCE AND CHASE HER DREAMS AT THE FIRST NATIONAL PUBLIC PERFORMANCE HIGH SCHOOL IN THE NATION.
boring school no school spirit and the majors are lackluster and mostly everyone loses interest in their major.
Arts High is the best performing Arts High School. You can attend for your personal talent such as Visual Art, Graphic Design, Dance, Drama, Vocal, Instrumental, and Video Production, There are so many opportunities at Arts High school and I’m sure everyone will love it there. You’ll meet a lot of people and it has a lot of diversity. The school is very compassionate about their majors and they are committed to making the school a fun experience.
Arts high is an amazing place to discover your passion for whatever you'd like to do. Every day the administration greets you with the upmost kindness. Back when I was a freshman the Teachers and staff greeted you with happy vibes and If it was a special day, music would blare as soon as you walked in, the teachers and students would dance together and it felt like a family. They always wish for our success and take time to know us.
You will never feel alone, there’s so much inclusivity. It’s an Art School so no one is really “cool” since were all technically geeks. The teachers are quite nice and they form comfortable and amicable relationships with the students. The learning opportunities are endless especially if you do what to continue in whatever major you’re in. The for majors are Visual Art, Dance, Vocal, and Video/Photography.
It took me a while to realize it but I am so happy I was able to attend Arts High School. But I do wish I went to a high school that would put me towards a career, since I will not be pursuing music.
i liked the fact that we can express ourselves artistically, but i would change the way some of the administrators would handle certain situations and even the way some talk to students or refuse to talk to the students when a problem arose and even listen to their students and care about them.
While attending the first performing arts high school in the Nation, I was thrilled with the performing experience. The school allows each student to embrace themselves, whether it be in drama, vocal, visual art, dance, or instrumental. Before attending, I had no clue what I wanted to do with my future. Considering it is a performing arts high school focusing on a person's creative facet, the mentors I had established what I would expect of the real world when it came to holding a job. They are incredibly genuine and never sugar coat anything making each student feel like an adult since we all made our own decisions. I will always remember my experiences at Arts since they developed who I've become. I learned a lot about myself and discovered new questions that I never thought id ask if I didn't attend the school. There was never any "competition" between each major. Still, we were never involved with one another, and that would be something I could change.
Arts High has been a place of great of opportunities for me. It offered me sanctuary, so many friends, some caring teachers, and I was put in an environment where I was able to succeed academically.
I love arts high school! I am a vocal major senior currently about to graduate. Unfortunately the virus has ruined my time as a senior. However I have still had the time of my life with my friends and family at arts high.
