Neal H. Moritz is the co-executive producer of the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures.[1][2] He has over seventy films to his credit.

History[]

Career[]

One of his earliest movies was Juice with Tupac Shakur. As CEO of his film banner, Original Film, Moritz has more than seventy films to his credit, including I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, Cruel Intentions, The Skulls, The Fast and the Furious franchise, Not Another Teen Movie, XXX, S.W.A.T., Evan Almighty, I Am Legend, Made of Honor, Total Recall and 21 Jump Street. Moritz is also credited for Prison Break, and he produced Cabin by the Lake, its sequel Return to Cabin by the Lake and The Glass House. In September 2017, Moritz and Original Film began a first-look deal for Paramount Pictures starting Jan. 1, 2018, leaving his longtime home at Sony Pictures after 20+ years. His overall deal at Sony Pictures Television was unaffected.

Role in the Sonic film series[]

Moritz played a key role in adapting the Sonic series into film, helping Sony negotiate the film options to the franchise from Sega in 2013. Owing to tension between Moritz and the studio, the film barely moved along in production, and was eventually placed in turnaround in the summer of 2017. Moritz left the studio around the same time and began shopping the film elsewhere, eventually catching the attention of Paramount. As part of signing Moritz and Original Film to a multi-year first-look deal, Paramount purchased Sony's options to Sonic in October 2017, acquiring all of the franchise's live-action media rights and allowing production to start in earnest.

As co-executive producer alongside Tim Miller, Moritz oversees all entries and media in the Sonic film series, including television spin-offs and shorts.
