this was outstanding. i'm writing this from my grave because Gillian Anderson killed me
My life is now separated as BGAABD (before Gillian Anderson as Blanche DuBois) and AGAABD (after Gillian Anderson as Blanche DuBois.
This is how this play is supposed to be done, down to a T. A minimalist yet effective set really allowed the audience to delve into a small, intimate, yet dangerous world and the lives of the characters we follow. The actors were visible in moments where they wouldn’t normally be which allowed for a much better and insightful insight into the play, it’s themes and it’s characters. The set was a major stand out, production-wise, as well as the music paired with the bold coloured lighting choices which made for a perfect immersive effect. The performances are nothing but something to be held in such a high regard every actor did everything possible to make the characters brilliant, Vanessa…
blanche dubois’ breakdown is becoming more and more relatable by the day as i spend lockdown trapped in a flat in the city with my younger sister and her boyfriend... where is my chinese paper lantern?
I cant imagine how much energy it would take to conjure that much emotion night after night ....Anderson’s Blanche one of the greatest of all time
“I don’t want realism, I want magic!”
Gillian Anderson was the perfect Blanche Dubois I’M FUCKING SOBBING
I've never seen any production of this play, and was blown away by the collision between a woman who can't live without her illusions, and a man who has none, and doesn't tolerate illusions of others. I don't know how Gillian Anderson walks away from the stage completely broken, and then can come back for a bow with a smile.
gillian anderson the woman that you are, the performer that you are, and the range that you possess.
The extreme inconsistency of Vanessa Kirby’s accent in this was really disturbing. Even though I hated it, I do prefer this to the Brando version but only because of Ben Foster’s performance. You could tell that Gillian Anderson tried her hardest to replicate Vivien Leigh but Ben Foster instead decided to put his own spin on the character of Stanley which I really respected.
i love vanessa kirby but she can't do a decent southern american accent to save her life.
Not us forcing our drama teacher to watch this production for our assessment just so we can watch Gillian Anderson
