Natalia Lafourcade is a contemporary musical artist, songwriter, singer, and producer from the state of Veracruz. She began writing songs at an early age and launched her first solo album in 2002. Throughout her nearly 20-year career she has been part of countless musical projects and among her most popular songs are En el 2000, Un derecho de nacimiento, Hasta la Raíz, Nunca es suficiente, Tú sí sabes quererme and De todas las flores, among others.

Natalia has given life to the following albums: Natalia Lafourcade (2002), Casa (2005 con la Forquetina), Hu hu hu (2009), Mujer Divina: Homenaje a Agustín Lara (2012), Hasta la Raíz (2015), Musas: Un homenaje al Folclore Latinoamericano en Manos de Los Macorinos Vol. 1 (2017), Musas: Un homenaje al Folclore Latinoamericano en Manos de Los Macorinos Vol. 2 (2018), Un canto por México Vol. 1 (2020), Un canto por México Vol. 2 (2021) and De Todas las Flores (2022).

As a composer she has been recognized on various occasions by SACM (Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico) and ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). Natalia has won several national and international awards for her work: 17 Latin Grammys, 4 Grammy Awards, a Billboard award and 3 MTV Awards, among others.

She has taken part in multiple ceremonies of the Latin Recording Academy’s Person of the Year, honoring Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Miguel Bosé and Alejandro Sanz, and various Latin Grammy awards ceremonies. She participated in the 2018 Oscar Awards ceremony where she performed the theme song from the Pixar movie, Coco, with actor Gael García and musical artist Miguel. In 2019, she took part in the Grammy Awards ceremony, singing with Aída Cuevas and Ángela Aguilar.

Although well-known for her own songwriting, Natalia also interprets songs by iconic Latin American composers. She has collaborated as arranger, producer and performer with national and international musical artists such as Juan Gabriel, Los Ángeles Azules, Omara Portuondo, Jorge Drexler, Pepe Aguilar, Leonel García, Kevin Johansen, Rubén Blades and Devendra Banhart, to name a few.

Her experience performing with symphonic orchestras began in 2010 when she presented traditional Mexican music for the bicentennial celebration of Mexico’s independence with conductor Alondra de la Parra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas. Later, she was featured in a benefit concert with OFUNAM (the Philharmonic Orchestra of the National Autonomous University of Mexico) in the Netzahualcóytl hall in Mexico City. Since then, Natalia has received invitations from prominent international symphony orchestras. In 2019, she was invited by Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic to perform her own songs and those of other Latin American composers at the Hollywood Bowl, in Los Angeles, California.

In her last 2017-2020 tour she offered nearly 250 concerts in Mexico, North American, Latin America and Europe. She gave two unprecedented tours of historically significant theaters throughout the Mexican territory. She has performed in national and international festivals as well as iconic venues like Lincoln Center in New York City, Koko in London, and the Bataclán in Paris. She has appeared on well-known U.S. television and radio programs such as Austin City Limits, NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concerts” and “Live from Here” with Chris Thile.

In 2019, she produced the classical music album and the documentary piece by Gastón Lafourcade, her father, titled Quien me tañe, escucha mis voces.

In 2020, Natalia Lafourcade was featured in the second season of the Netflix series “Song Exploder,” along with The Killers, Dua Lipa and Nine Inch Nails. In 2021 she had an acting participation in the new film by French filmmaker Léos Carax, Annette, presented in Mexico at the Morelia International Film Festival.

Natalia supports various humanitarian institutions, among them the UN Refugee Agency, Earth’s Call and Save the Children. In 2018 she formed Un Canto por México, an umbrella project encouraging diverse institutions to unite in philanthropic efforts.  In 2021, she participated in 3 streaming concerts in support of the fight for the recognition of women in the company of other companions such as Ely Guerra, Mare Advertencia, Julieta Venegas and Paz Court, among others.

Currently, she leads the effort Juntos por el Centro de documentación del Son Jarocho (Together for the Center of documentation of Son Jarocho), to rebuild a vibrant community center that was damaged by earthquakes in 2017. The purpose of this center is to strengthen the social fabric and preserve the culture and traditions of the Veracruz community, and which will be reopened soon. The album Un canto por México vol. 1 winner of 2 Latin Grammys and 1 Grammy Award and Un canto por México vol. 2 with three nominations at the Latin Grammys and one at the Grammy Awards, were part of the many actions that, together with the efforts of various organizations, contribute to the reconstruction of said cultural center.

In 2022, “Hasta la Raíz, el documental”, received the Latin Grammy for Best Long Form Music Video and “Un canto por México, El musical” was nominated for Best Folk Album at the Latin Grammys and as Best Regional Mexican Music Album at the 2023 Grammy Awards.

During the pandemic, Natalia decided to return to the studio to record unpublished songs of her own and make a new album with them, “De Todas las Flores” (Of All the Flowers). A musical diary about her experiences of recent years released on October 27 and presented live for the first time in a sold-out concert at the historic Carnegie Hall in New York accompanied by David Byrne, Omara Portuondo and Jorge Drexler. As part of this new musical universe, he also launched “Of All the Flowers, The podcast”, reflective conversations with special guests about each of the songs on the new album.

She closed 2022 with a celebration at the Roberto Cantoral Cultural Center in Mexico City presenting her new album, in addition to some of her favorite hits, as a prelude to her new tour, which she is preparing to start in mid-2023.

In 2023 she will start her new tour De Todas las Flores to present her new album in Mexico, the United States, Spain, France, Argentina, Peru and Chile, among other countries to be confirmed.
