Hansi Flick hints at Bayern Munich move for Erling Haaland

Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has hinted at the possibility of luring Erling Haaland away from Borussia Dortmund after the Norwegian sensation netted twice in Saturday’s Der Klassiker.

Haaland has been in unstoppable form ever since joining Dortmund last January, and added another notch to his belt when he helped his side take control of the derby. He netted twice in the opening ten minutes, taking his tally for the season to 29 goals in just 28 games.

Unfortunately for Haaland, he stood opposite a forward who was in no mood to be outshone on the big occasion. Bayern came roaring back and, inspired by a Robert Lewandowski hat-trick, won 4-2 to reclaim top spot in the Bundesliga from RB Leipzig.

Lewandowski is widely considered the best number nine in the world and given that he joined Bayern from Dortmund back in 2014, many in Germany have wondered whether Haaland could make the same move when Flick decides the time is right to source a replacement for the prolific Pole.

After a game in which the two strikers starred, it was only natural that one reporter would ask the question. And Flick was happy to flirt with the idea.

“Very, very much is possible in life, nothing can be ruled out,” he told Sky in Germany.

“But that is a long way off. He has a long-term contract in Dortmund and is an option for many top clubs.”

He’s right on that second part – Haaland is hot property. While Bayern may have eyes on him to take the mantle from Lewandowski when the time comes, 90min have long been reporting on Manchester City’s interest in the Norwegian.

A source indicated in February that City fully intend to sign a new striker in the summer and see Haaland as their man, and it was later learned that they are considering a double swoop for both Haaland and highly-rated team-mate Giovanni Reyna.

City see Haaland as the player to take the reins from Sergio Aguero and lead the club for the next decade. Considering their commanding lead at the top of the Premier League, the thought of Pep Guardiola’s team adding Haaland to their ranks should come as a frightening prospect to the rest of England.
