We weren't planning on coming here, but found it by accident and we are so glad we did. So much rich history in this house. The house is also stunning to look at and the items on display are wonderfully preserved. The gardens were beautiful also. We are planning on coming back again when we are back over in N.Ireland

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Mount Stewart this week. The staff were lovely at reception, making us feel welcome from the get-go. The volunteers were very informative in the house. I loved wandering round and talking to the volunteers about the history of the house. Fiona, Wallace, Jason and Phillip are all examples of people who are very knowledgeable of the place in which they work and they are brilliant at interacting with the public. It would have been lovely to see more of the house, especially the servants' quarters. Beautiful gardens. Lovely coffee and cake in the tea room too! Would definitely recommend this amazing place to all NT members.

Perfect, beautiful, plenty of different walks, a small cafe, (a bit pricey and portions are small but this is usual for national trust), kids natural play park accessed by an inclined pathway which may not be suitable for someone with walking difficulties (no dogs in this kids area). There are NO picnic tables. Dog friendly on leads with a large exercise off lead field. Friendly staff. House tours available. Gift shop and small library. The only down side is that the information leaflets on the ground are limited (because they want you to buy tours or books presumably) so if this is your thing prepare in advance as there's so much history and interesting facts as you walk around it's a shame to miss out. For example the famous Dodo garden figures have a story attached. Find the cork tree, the wooden mushroom hidden by the lake (I say it's were he wood fairies dance when everyone's gone home), visit the rose garden in season, look out for the little pet name plaques for beloved heaven sent pets. Note that if you come in winter that some of the walks are closed so check in advance.

We spent a couple of hours walking around the gardens and enjoying the different areas and seeing the vast range of plants from all over the world. The volunteers were busy keeping them looking good and we loved the stone statues in the Dodo garden. We walked up to the walled garden and were interested to see how it was being developed. After a very good bowl of soup for lunch in the cafe, we went round the house. This was made particularly enjoyable by the guides who were so knowledgeable and amusing, happy to chat about the house, it’s history and the people who have lived there over the years. Well done to the NT for recruiting such a great group of people to show us around.

Such stunning gardens! Late July was the perfect time to be there (although obviously that depends on how the weather has been) and the range of plants and the planting was fabulous. The house is also amazing although we were not able to visit all of it and some was closed for renovation. If you like gardens, you must put this on your list. Wonderful.

OMG what a place. And this as a summer residence!! If you are in the area go and visit, you will not be disappointed. The house is stunning. You are a bit restricted due to it still being lived in, but the rooms you are allowed in, WOW! The guides are fantastic with the information, and ask any questions. Take time to wander around the formal gardens and if you wish the grounds.

I visited Mount Stewart with my sister. We had phoned a couple of days earlier and booked 2 mobility scooters. We phoned when we arrived and were directed to a car park which was closer to the reception. 2 scooters were delivered to us in the car park by Jenny and Lesley, who then talked us through the facilities and advised where was not accessible on the scooters. We were also told where we could access wheelchairs as they could be used in areas such as the house, where scooters were not permitted. We were accompanied to the reception and shown where we could leave the scooters. My sister was helped into a wheelchair which allowed us to go into the shop and tea room. The scooters were excellent and we were able to go around the estate, which my sister had not been able to do for a long time. The gardens are well kept and accessible. A big thanks to all the staff at Mount Stewart for making our day so easy. We will return soon and would highly recommend it to anyone with mobility issues. You should ring to book the scooters or wheelchairs before you visit.

Interesting place and beautiful grounds. Very helpful and informative staff. One issue was the cafe. Staff were very busy and working hard. Food we got was ok but not all the food on display was covered and flies were landing in some of the slices of cake / traybakes etc . I appreciate it was a very hot day but it was very off putting. Some food was covered but surely more care should be taken.

A cold and windswept autumn day is possibly not the best time to visit a garden but to it’s credit Mount Stewart was still stunning. A fabulous location on the banks of Strangford Lough and a beautiful house in the middle. It must be magical on a summer’s day.

Stunning formal gardens with extensive park land behind, full of interesting trees and shrubs. Well worth doing some of the long walks rather than just focusing on the pretty parts. Interesting house with an interesting history in the middle. Cafe and shop both a bit sub par but that’s not the reason for a visit.
