About
This park is one of Montreal's largest greenspaces and is a great place for admiring a wide variety of flora and fauna. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same person behind New York's Central Park, Mount Royal Park boasts miles of trails and superb views of the city. Here, you can stroll down the tree-lined paths and recharge with a picnic on the grass by Beaver Lake. You can also enjoy outdoor activities year-round, such as canoeing in the summer and skiing in the wintertime. There’s a mild climb to reach the viewing area at the top. Alternatively, you can hop on a public bus to reach the peak. – Tripadvisor

Neighborhood: Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.

Must see for the view of the city
Easy walk up wide, tiny-graveled path. Paid parking, $6CAD we paid for 1.5-2 hours. View of the city is at the Chalet. You can see essentially the whole city. Great view. Local tourism office said it's a great place to watch the sunrise, though we went mid-day. We also did the loop to the summit. Not much to see, mostly in the trees, but nice wide, graveled path.

    Top of Mount Royal
We took the train and 165 bus to the entrance off Chem de la Cote des Neiges. From there it was a pleasant walk to the pond and then up to the top where we took in the view. You could see the mountains in the distance. We had some coffee and tea at the chalet and sat outside. Even though it was a Monday morning, there were a fair number of people at the top. We then continued up the hill to see the Mount Royal Cross. The climb was not too strenuous and the paths were well marked.

    Mont Royal Park
Beautiful and nice walk! Note that the St Joseph Orator (basilica) in the photo is far from Mont Royal. You must visit the nearby pond/ lake which Is beautiful and well maintained.

    Lots of Recreation
The huge park in the middle of the city is much-loved and much-used. But it is so big that you will never experience crowds. If you have the energy, I recommend that you climb the steps up to the top where you will be rewarded with splendid views and a charming inn where you can enjoy a beverage. Lots of other recreational attractions.

    Walkable Gem to Great Views!
We walked from our downtown Montreal hotel early after breakfast as we planned to do a lot of miles today. We entered through the Jeanne Mance Park, followed the trails up the Grand Staircase (could be a bit strenuous) to the city views from the Chalet area. We also did the summit trail around the cross to views on the other side, then walked the Olmstead path near the lake and boathouse area to exit on the opposite side. We loved it!

    Great views
Easy to get lost, be careful, big area. Use maps app. Great views of course. We took bus drop off, then got back on a different location, almost got lost, had to ask directions. Cooler on top, bring water and snacks.

    Montreal’s Beautiful City HIke
Multiple trails to explore this lovely park inside the city. Trail maps available online; you can follow the paved road or take one of the more adventurous paths through the woods. At the top is the chalet with food and beverages available not to mention a breathtaking view of the city

    Views of the city
This is a green space outside the city. It's such a beautiful space. We took a taxi to the park. We peeked around La Maison. The staff was really helpful. There is a little coffee shop there. We hiked to the lake. It's very pleasant with rowboats and green grass where you can lay u r blanket. There are stone sculptures in the center of the area. We walked to a spot with views of the city, it took about 15 min. The views are gorgeous. You can see panoroma of the buildings, mountains and river. We hiked to the cross which was another 15 min away. We climbed the stairs down to another viewpoint where we jumped on a city bus to get down the hill. You need exact change for the bus. It was a lovely experience.

    Mont Royal, Montreal, getting there.
Mont Royal is worth a visit, on a good day. The views are spectacular and Smith House has a fine cafe. However, this review is principally about getting there. You might consider taking the Metro to Peel station, then walking up Peel Street and onwards into the park via the southern entry point. Let me stop you now. This route might be suitable for an Olympic athlete in training for some leg intensive sport, but it is pure insanity for normal humans. The climb from Peel station to the Royal Chalet in Mont Royal Park, is epic to say the least. Take an Uber to Smith House, in Remembrance Road, and start your explorations there. By all means walk down and you will see what I mean.

What can I say? This place is so unbelievable it seems like a fairy tail. It was coooold in Montreal but I insisted to go on my run. I couldn't believe these Montrealians. They were all out doing their thing as if it wasn't negative a million degrees below freezing. The cross country skiers were skiing, the runners were running, the parents were sledding down the hill with their kids, people snow shoeing. Can't get these people down. I super enjoyed my morning visit to this incredible wonderous place. Tried to take pictures of the vistas of the city that you can see once you climb up a bit but pictures don't do justice to the real thing of course. I can't wait to come back next year with my cross country skis. Ive been there in the summer a few years back, don't remember much, but have no doubt it was a whole other kind of magic. I can't say enough about the glory of this parc. Stunning!! Love!!!

Mount Royal is a park in the middle of Montreal on top of the mountain. It has 2 lookouts, 1 looking over the east and 1 looking over downtown and south. Lots of trails, even a lake.

We went there really late and were positively shocked by the beauty of the view, which you cannot get from elsewhere. Be ready though, for a long walk and it was icy on the Sunday afternoon. I had grips on my boots so it was alright.

It is worth the visit to Mount Royal Park for its great views of Montreal. Recreational activities for the whole family - like skating on the lake, cross country skiing, walking & hiking trails in the winter.

You can access Mount Royal from many places: Park Ave, Pine Ave, Cote des Neiges. All are great for stimulating nature walks with great views of the city as an added Bonus!

We walked uphill from the city (car / coach park would take you directly to near the top but miss out on some great views). Lovely day so the panorama was spectacular. Cafe at the top in an interesting building with historical murals. We walked further on to Beaver Lake which was also lovely.

Must be also beautiful in summer.
In winter even on this cold 🥶 day, Locals are out cross country skiing, kids sledding, and many walkers.
One of us rented cross country skis for an hour, to delight in the beauty of this park, right in the middle of the city

Mount Royal park is a lovely space to wander around during the day and the viewpoint overlooking the city at the top is the highlight of any trip to Montréal. The hike up there is long and not for the faint of heart- I saw some quite young kids struggling and I myself was practically sweating by the time I’d climbed all those stairs- but maybe I’m just unfit. The view is well worth it though, and there are places to sit and a café to relax it. Definitely a must if you’re visiting Montreal for the first time!

So I have been to three view point of the city.
1. Ferris wheel at the port of an old city
2. Observatory 360 in the city centre
3. Mont royal park
I can say that observatory give you the biggest angle of view (360), so you can see everything in any direction possible. You can see Olympic stadium, old port, almost everything. So it is worth visiting.
2. Mont royal park view point is mainly facing city centre, but you can also view some other parts of the city, so it is not as good as observatory, but it is definitely worth visiting
3. From ferris wheel you can't see much because of the skyscrapers, so it is not really worth it.

Mount Royal Park is located on top of Mount Royal. There are a few city viewing spots along the road up to the park. Once in the park, there is plenty of space to walk around, picnic or to visit with family or friends. On a very short visit to Montreal, this park was easy to schedule into my day. I visited in the Fall and had a day of sunshine with warmer temperatures. The Autumn leaves were falling and were beautiful to see. You can also visit horses that are used by law enforcement when on duty in the park. I stopped to see the horses and while I was there a loud truck passed by the horse area. The horse immediately trotted away and stood 'at attention' until the truck passed. Just added to the fun of the visit!

We were completely amazed at just how awesome Mont Royal is! And that’s just with a one-day hike. We could easily spend many days checking out different routes and access points. Luckily for us, the weather was cooperating, but even if it had been in the serious negative digits it would have been well worth it. We approached from the south face, about 6 minutes or so to the west of Peel. The staircases were iced over, but no problem as we came suitably dressed to climb through whatever conditions. After a short but steep upward ascent through untouched snow we were stunned to find ourselves on a main trail that included a fantastic groomed trail for x-country skiing. Followed it to Beaver Lake rec area which folks were taking advantage of for skating and tubing. Then traversed the full length of the summit, stopping at the spectacular lookout onto the city, and continuing on to exit to the northeast at Mont Royal Ave. to get bagels at Fairmount. Such a treat to have this natural gem in the midst of an urban area. Bravo to past generations for having this foresight. We’ll be back many times and seasons to see all that this jewel has to offer.

We lived for ten years across from Mount Royal Park on Cote de Neiges. It was an easy walk and great in Summer for showing off the city to visitors from the promonade with it's wonderful views. Winter, again a short ride to Beaver Lake (by care since it's very cold) and skating. Hot chocolate at the cafe and warm places to put on your skates. The northern edge of Mount Royal Park is the Cote des Neiges Cemetary where many well known people are buried including some who died on the Titanic.

Mount Royal is a city park designed by Olmsted and features a Belvedere and chalet, Beaver Lake with an artificially frozen skating rink in winter. It is accessible by bus. The best part of the park for me is that there are many walking and cycling paths that wind through the park. In winter x-c skiing and snowshoeing are offered with equipment rental.
