A lot of your experience is going to be based on luck because signing up for classes and for housing, which are major parts of student life, are both based on a lottery system. However, once you find a good group of friends, you'll have an amazing experience. Since most people are on campus, it's easy to spend time with friends in between classes, which has been the highlight of all my time here. It's also easy to reach out to professors, and the majority of them are very nice and willing to help - you just have to make sure to connect with them. The campus is pretty isolated, and the bus system can be annoying to navigate. Mount Holyoke is also an extremely expensive college, and in my experience doesn't do much to help students navigate that problem. The experience here is definitely catered towards people with money, which can leave lower-income students feeling isolated - but there are certain programs, like Fearless First, where you can find support.

Review Mount Holyoke College

I love Mount Holyoke, but there are problems with it like any other institution. I love the academics and people, they make the environment collaborative and welcoming. However, the administration markets itself as a "liberal and diverse" college, which is untrue. They value the status quo, just like any other college, and do not want it to change at all, even for the betterment of its students. I wish they would take student concerns more seriously.

I love that the classes are small, usually around 15 to 20 people. The students here really do want to learn which makes for great classroom discussions. The professors have been very insightful and are intelligent people. I have heard from other students, past and present, that they think the food is bad sometimes but I have never had a problem with it. One thing I have had an issue with is the process of registering for classes. I got lucky with my first semester and got into all my courses relatively easily. This semester has been a whole other story. I would guess that the college is trying to keep their reputation for small classes accurate while at the same time trying to enroll more students. It's not just me who has had/is having this problem, it seems to be a frequent occurrence for most students. Overall though I have no regrets in choosing to go here. I have heard great things about the extensive and close knit alumni community as well.
