Mount Eerie - Clear Moon

Welp, here we are are again. Phil gets another 100. He is so god damn consistent. I cant fucking help it though with an album like this. Going into this, I didn’t really know what to expect because I was just going on a deep dive through Phil’s work and wtf, this album is just so ethereal and pretty. I had to sit with this one for awhile after I listened to it for the first time because I was just awestruck, but also I felt the need to try and understand it more before I gave it a score, and well, here we are. The songwriting on this album is just so undeniably pretty in every possible way. This album is much more synth and pad based, which I honestly give it a lot of props for. Phil always touched on those elements quite a bit, but here, he fully embraces it. He does such a good job as well. Another thing about this album is that it feels kinda shoe gaze inspired in a way. Songs like Yawning sky give you that tidal wave of noise that just leaves you entranced. The vocals are absolutely beautiful as always. I just cant even put into words how beautiful he sounds on this album. His voice is just so soothing and it always captures me as soon as he starts putting words into the atmosphere that this album gives off. Another thing is the lyrics. Phil has always touched on themes of nature, and it’s one of his main topics through a lot of his albums. The thing that really makes this stand out in terms of nature is ow fucking well the lyrics actually blend with the music. I feel like even this album does a just as good of a job at sonically connecting themes of nature with the sound as The Glow Pt. 2. These themes of existentialism and mortality within himself are absolutely perfect as these songs go on. The feeling of nature and wind and solitude feel so unreal and it instantly transports me into a whole other world. The idea that every day life is flawed. It just all makes sense within the sound. Through The Trees Pt. 2 is probably my favorite Mount Eerie song. It so unbelievably beautiful, and it really feels like a perfect song. I love the lyrics, the production, the vocals, the instrumentation, and just everything about that track. I cant give it enough praise. The Place I Live feels so detailed yet stripped back, and my god the synths just sound so good. The girl harmonies are so amazing well at the ladder hard of the track. House Shape is another favorite, with the instrumentation feeling a little bit more abstract, but also extremely captivating. I love when Phil comes in with the harmonies and the rest of the track. It honestly brings me to tears. Over Dark Water is the weirdest track on here, but it absolutely blew my mind when I heard it for the first time. The way the drums blow up at the end just left me with my jaw dropped. The title track really takes its time to develop, but it feels like such a journey. I even love the closing track, which is just an ambient song with synthesizers. It feels so appropriate, and not just random. But yeah. This album is so god damn good, and easily one of the best Mount Eerie projects for me. This is the only thing iv been listening to for the past week because I haven’t found any better music to listen to haha. It’s just so overwhelmingly good. I love this album.
