Who Are the Characters in the Mortal Kombat Movie?

The Mortal Kombat reboot, directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan (Saw, Aquaman), and its cast of ferocious fighters is now available to view on HBO Max and in theaters.

We've compiled every wicked warrior in the film, as well as their games counterpart, so you can compare and contrast the characters. Check them all out below...

Meet the Cast of the Mortal Kombat Reboot Movie

Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Briggs

Mehcad Brooks, known for his roles in Desperate Housewives, The Game, and Supergirl, plays Super Soldier Jax Briggs, a Special Forces officer with cybernetically-enhanced arms and a steely (get it?) nature.

Previously, Jax was played by Gregory McKinney and Lynn Williams in the two live-action films from the '90s.

Chin Han as Shang Tsung

Chin Han (The Dark Knight, Marco Polo) plays ultimate Mortal Kombat baddie, Liu Kang's arch-nemesis, and soul-sucking warlock Shang Tsung. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa played Shang Tsung in the 1995 film.

Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion

GET OVER HERE!

Hiroyuki Sanada (Lost, Westworld, Avengers: Endgame) plays the hell-bound ninja Hanzo Hasashi - aka Scorpion - who's determined to seek revenge with his sharp Kunai-tipped chains. Chris Casamassa and J.J. Perry played the role previously.

Tadanobu Asano as Raiden

He may not have lasted long as the Warriors Three's Hogun while facing down Cate Blanchett's Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, but Tadonobu Asano's gotten an upgrade in Mortal Kombat, landing the role of Raiden, the non-Asgardian God of Thunder.

As a celestial being with his glowing eyes always on the big picture, Raiden can control lighting as well as teleport. Christopher Lambert portrayed Raiden in the 1995 film while James Remar filled in for the sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Sisi Stringer as Mileena

Newcomer Sisi Stringer plays Mileena, the evil clone of Kitana who wishes nothing more than to slay her "sister." With feline eyes and a twisted fanged face (thanks to her diabolical DNA) Mileena is a lethal lass with sinister sai skills and an almost unparalleled penchant for death-dealing.

Mileena was previously played by Dana Hee in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Ludi Lin as Liu Kang

Ludi Lin, who you can catch in the 2017 Power Rangers film and in the Black Mirror episode "Striking Vipers," plays central hero Liu Kang, one of Earth's most powerful and capable warriors. As the main character for most incarnations and stories within the Mortal Kombat franchise, Liu Kang is the nemesis of inter-dimensional sorcerer Shang Tsung.

Robin Shou played Kang in both '90s Mortal Kombat movies.

Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero

Renowned martial artist, and James Wan player, Joe Taslim (The Raid, Fast & Furious 6, The Night Comes for Us) slips into the glacial gear of Sub-Zero, one of the franchise's most icily iconic characters. Previously, Sub-Zero was played by Francois Petit and Keith Cooke.

Josh Lawson as Kano

Australia's Josh Lawson (House of Lies) is Kano - the merciless mercenary leader of crime cartel The Black Dragon. An arms dealer with a cybernetic heart, Kano is a killer through and through.

JAG's Trevor Goddard played Kano in 1995's Mortal Kombat.

Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade

Another Aussie actor joining the Kombat krew is The Meg's Jessica McNamee, who plays Sonya Blade - the tough as nails General of Earth's special ops forces on a mission to thwart extra-dimensional invaders.

Bridgette Wilson (Last Action Hero, I Know What You Did Last Summer) played Sonya in the 1995 movie while Sandra Hess tagged in for Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Lewis Tan as Cole Young

Lewis Tan (Deadpool 2, and more recently of Netflix's Wu Assassins) portrays Cole Young, a washed-up MMA-style fighter who bears a birthmark in the shape of the Mortal Kombat symbol on his chest. This mysterious marking propels him onto a journey that leads him to the temple of the thunderous Elder God known as Lord Raiden, where he comes into contact with a group of highly-skilled fighters.

Cole Young is a new character created for this film.

Max Huang as Kung Lao

Max Huang is a stunt performer and actor of Chinese and German descent, according to IMDB. He's known for his stunt performances in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Jackie Chan's The Foreigner, and Hitman: Agent 47. He plays Kung Lao, the former Shaolin Monk whose wide-brimmed hat is so razor-sharp it can cut a man (or woman) in half.

Kung Lao didn't appear in either of the original Mortal Kombat movies.

Goro

Goro has appeared in Mortal Kombat since the beginning of the series. He is a four-armed, half-human/half-dragon and is a member of the Shokan.

Tom Woodruff, Jr. played Goro in the original film, while Kevin Michael Richardson did the voice.

Bonus: Shao Kahn

While we only see Shao Kahn as a statue, the iconic villain first introduced in Mortal Kombat II has already made his presence felt.
