Bosch: Legacy- Who Is Honey Chandler?
Honey Chandler is the ferocious defence lawyer who joins forces with Harry Bosch to solve cases and clear their names of wrongdoing in Bosch: Legacy.

What happened to Chandler in the books?

Honey Chandler was introduced in Michael Connelly's third novel, The Concrete Blonde, where she represents a woman against Harry Bosch in a wrongful death lawsuit against her husband. Bosch admits Chandler for her work, and they bond during conversations during their smoking breaks, getting to know one another on a personal level.

However, Chandler's role was short-lived in the book series when her story came to a tragically dark end. On the day the jury reached their verdict in the case, Chandler’s dead body was discovered at her home, after being strangled to death by the Dollmaker copycat killer.

Honey Chandler's role in the books is drastically different to Mimi Rogers' iteration of the character in Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, and Michael Connelly revealed more about the differences between the book versions and the television series in an interview with The Express.

We really invest in the lives of Money Chandler and Maddie Bosch well beyond what is in the books. Money Chandler isn’t even in the books anymore, she was really only in one book so that character is a creation of the writing room. And she borrows aspects from The Lincoln Lawyer and things like that but she’s her own character that lives in the writing room so that’s all new stuff.

What has happened to Chandler in the Bosch and Bosch: Legacy television series?

In season 1 of the original Bosch series, Honey Chandler is introduced as an adversary to Harry Bosch, as she faces off against him in a civil trial, after being sued by Rosa Flores, the widow of a man he killed in the line of duty a couple of years ago.

Chandler is a ferocious defense lawyer, just like she is in the book series, and during the trial, Chandler accuses Bosch of killing Flores as revenge for his mother's unsolved murder. Bosch and Chandler have heated exchanges throughout the first season, but as the Bosch series progresses, their relationship softens. This is partly due to Bosch's daughter, Maddie, going to work for Chandler in her offices as an assistant.

Chandler's tough exterior is challenged as Bosch reaches its climax in Season 7, when she becomes a victim of an attempted murder, when she is shot multiple times on the orders of the villain, Carl Rogers. She survives the attack, and returns as a co-lead in the spin-off, Bosch: Legacy.

In Bosch: Legacy season 1, Carl Rogers is released from prison after a mistrial, which irks the defense attorney, and she seeks retribution against the man who ordered the hit on her. Rogers ends up being gunned down by the Russian mafia, as Chandler watches on.

In Bosch: Legacy season 2, the FBI are investigating Honey Chandler's involvement in Carl Rogers' death, but her clever maneuvering in court gets her out of trouble, forcing the FBI to back off. Chandler also spends season 2 defending a man called David Foster, who has been wrongly accused of murdering Lexi Parks. She enlists Harry Bosch to help investigate the case, as the pair officially begin their working relationship. Chandler ends season 2 with the announcement that she will be running for District Attorney, which could have a lot of implications moving forward.

What could happen to Chandler in Bosch: Legacy season 3?

Despite only lasting for one novel in the book series before she was killed off, Honey Chandler has featured in every season of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, and she is officially returning for Bosch: Legacy season 3, with more exciting storylines planned for the character.

It looks likely to be a hotly contested race to become the District Attorney, as Honey Chandler launches her campaign in Season 3, and this poses a lot of questions about her continued working relationship with Harry Bosch moving forward. Will they continue to work together? Or will Bosch's apparent descent into darkness lead to them becoming adversaries once again?
