Both face challenges in their quest to lose weight -- Molly from her slender sister and mother and Mike at the diner where he frequently eats. But having found each other, they will support each other as they try to achieve their goals, be it weight loss or Molly's decision to quit teaching and pursue her dream as a writer. jabba h I never watched Mike and Molly when it was in its original network run. I've only recently started watching it on HBO Max. Season 1 is HILARIOUS! Both Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy are at the top of their game. It was a little tough to watch at first, because, just like Billy and Melissa (at that time), I'm a chunky monkey and some of the jokes felt like they were hitting a little too close to "mean" rather than "funny." However, as I watched more episodes, I quickly got over my early objections and rolled laughing because I found so much true to life humor in the writing and acting. I started watching M&M because it's from the same people that did Big Bang Theory, Mom, and many others. These people aren't mean-spirited, but they do like tackling subject matter that others have never touched or maybe were afraid to touch. There's sadness in being fat, but there's also a hell of a lot of humor and Chuck Lorre and his gang make me feel like part of the club and not some fat outsider objecting to the truth that we eat a lot more than we should and losing weight is a tough, tough thing to do. Stepping off the soapbox now... Mike and Molly is funny, sweet, and a good time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This show is just a terrible cliche full of fat jokes, and miserable parents. It broadens absolutely nothing for the sitcom genre. it's characters aren't interesting, nor do they have anything interesting to say, and their jokes are predictable and tired. Rachel Ray Daily Telegraph (UK) This is a show that is likely to transform through several episodes as more is revealed about the underlying reasons for Mike and Molly's weight. But the well delivered comedy is reason enough for the curious viewer to tune in right now. Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Dan Fienberg Uproxx There's a version that's laughing with its characters...the problem is that there's a different version of Mike & Molly that's much easier to see and that's the version that Lorre's detractors were probably afraid of. Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Linda Holmes NPR The weight humor is less directed at them and more shared with them, and they have nice, low-key chemistry. It's a very warm vision of both of them most of the time, and that's quite rare. Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Chris Gardner Stuff.co.nz Is 48 fat jokes in a 22-minute episode of a show about fat people - an incredible 35.56 per cent of the total jokes - excessive? Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Kari Croop Common Sense Media While it's not necessarily done in poor taste, it's a shame that a show about two people who don't fit the traditional leading-role body types chooses to play the weight card so heavy-handedly. Rated: 3/5 Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Nabila Hatimy The Star (Kenya) Overall the show is witty and charming... Jul 17, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
