Blades add ex-Maroon Spence to blue-line

The Blenheim Blades announced Monday they’ve acquired veteran defenceman Craig Spence from the Chatham Maroons.

The 20-year-old from Chatham hasn’t played since Oct. 5 because of an injury, but he’s scheduled to be in the Blades’ lineup by the new year.

The six-foot-two, 185-pound Spence had two goals and seven assists in eight games with the Maroons this season in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

He had 9-20-29 totals in 45 games in the 2021-22 regular season and then posted 5-8-13 totals in 21 playoff games as the Maroons reached the Sutherland Cup final.

Spence was a seventh-round pick by the Mississauga Steelheads in the 2018 Ontario Hockey League draft.

He played for the Maroons in the 2018-19 season. He moved up in 2019-20 to the Ontario Junior Hockey League, collecting 16 points in 48 games with the Georgetown Raiders.

Canadiens rally to beat Blades

The Lakeshore Canadiens scored three unanswered goals for a 3-1 comeback win over the Blades on Sunday in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Stobbs Division.

Darby Lemieux staked the Blades to an early lead before a crowd of 345 at Blenheim Memorial Arena.

Braydin Metcalfe replied for the Canadiens in the first period, Kyle Walker scored in the second and Eric Bisson tallied in the third.

Jake Vancoillie of the Blades and Romano Liburdi of the Canadiens each made 36 saves.

The Blades (10-8-0-0) are third in points and fifth in winning percentage in the division. They’ve fallen three points behind the second-place Canadiens (11-4-0-1).

The Blades will host the Dresden Kings at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Kings’ losing streak hits nine games

The Dresden Kings are on a nine-game skid after their 4-2 road loss to the Amherstburg Admirals on Sunday in the PJHL’s Stobbs Division.

The Kings led 2-1 late in the second period on goals by Breck Rainey and Trent Amaro. Joseph Malinowski made 34 saves.

Owen Papulkas scored twice for the Admirals (8-11-0-0), Mitchell Demelo and Braeden Armstrong added singles, and Massimo Agostini made 23 saves.

The Kings (2-13-1-0) remain one point ahead of the last-place Wallaceburg Thunderhawks.

The Kings will host the Lakeshore Canadiens at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
