The Princess of Wales underwent 'planned abdominal surgery' in hospital

Carole and Michael Middleton will be an "enduring presence" for Princess Kate when she arrives home from hospital, an insider has claimed.

The Princess of Wales was hospitalised on January 16 at The London Clinic, where she received "planned abdominal surgery".

Kate, 42, is expected to remain in hospital for up to two weeks and is unlikely to return to royal duties until at least after Easter.

Prince William, 41, has halted his royal duties for the time being and is taking care of Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, at Adelaide Cottage.

According to a royal source, Carole and Michael Middleton will also be at the Waleses' Windsor home to help care for their daughter when she returns from hospital.

Kate's parents “will be there to lend support,” a source has claimed.

They added: “Her parents are an enduring factor in the upbringing of their grandchildren.

“And they will be a reassuring presence when she goes back to Windsor to recuperate.”

A close family friend claimed the Prince and Princess of Wales do not have “a huge private staff” and “as a result, William is really hands-on.”

They continued to tell People Magazine: “He doesn’t want any mistakes made with the next generation.

“He wants to give them a proper upbringing and lots of love. That is foremost in his mind.”

Robert Hardman, the author of The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, also said: “We know they are a very tight family unit, and he wants to be there for them.

“So much of what they do with those kids is about normalising life and not making them feel like they are in a special gilded cage.”

Carole and Michael live in Bucklebury which is a 40-minute drive away from Windsor Great Park.

Kate's younger siblings, Pippa and James, also live in the Berkshire area so would be on hand to help with caring for the Princess of Wales during her recuperation.
