Biografía[editar]

Hijo de Peter Francis Middleton (1920-2010) y Valerie Glassborow (1924-2006). Nació en Leeds pero se crio en Moortown. Su padre[1] fue un piloto que voló junto al príncipe Felipe como su copiloto en un recorrido en avión de dos meses por América del Sur en 1962. La película British Pathé lo muestra junto al Príncipe durante el recorrido.[2][3]

Su tatarabuelo, William Middleton (1807-1884), era abogado y hacendado de Gledhow Grange Estate, cerca de Leeds.[4][5] Se sabe que la familia Middleton brindaba entretenimiento en Leeds a la familia real británica desde la década de 1920.[6][7][8] En abril de 2011, antes de la boda de su hija con el príncipe Guillermo, como patriarca de la familia Middleton, se le concedió un escudo de armas y el título de armigero.[9]

El abuelo de Michael Middleton, Richard Noel Middleton (1878-1951), era, según un documental de la BBC, un abogado que conoció y se casó con la aristócrata Olive Lupton en 1914.[10] En 1921, Noel se convirtió en el director de la firma que su esposa Olive Middleton (1881-1936) había heredado a la muerte de su padre.[11] Olive fue miembro de la familia Lupton de Roundhay, descrita en los archivos de Leeds como una familia dinástica empresarial y muy unida a la política. También de fabricantes de lana y terratenientes aristócratas.[12][13][14][15][16]

Se hizo público en 2016 que, en la Primera Guerra Mundial, Olive Middleton, y su primo segundo, Albert Kitson, Segundo Baron Airedale, convirtieron la casa familiar en un hospital con Olive siendo enfermera voluntaria.[17][18][19]

Michael Middleton tiene tres hermanos, entre ellos Richard, cuyo hijo, Adam Middleton, es el padrino de la hija de Catalina, Carlota de Cambridge.[20][21]

Matrimonio e hijos[editar]

Su esposa es Carole Middleton, nacida el 31 de enero de 1955 en la localidad de Perivale en Ealing.[22][23][24] Hija del constructor Ronald Goldsmith (1931–2003) y Dorothy Harrison (1935–2006), fue criada en una pequeña casa en Southall,[25] donde asistió a la escuela local.[26]

La pareja se conoció cuando ambos trabajaban en British Airways (BA) como auxiliares de vuelo.[27] En 1979 Michael había sido ascendido, convirtiéndose en un despachador de vuelo[28] en el aeropuerto de Heathrow en Londres, donde era el encargado del seguimiento de la flota de aerolíneas en tierra. La pareja se casó el 21 de junio de 1980, en la iglesia de San Jorge en Dorney, Buckinghamshire.[29] Compraron una casa victoriana adosada en Bradfield Southend, cerca de Reading, Berkshire.[27]

La familia vivió durante una temporada en Ammán, Jordania, donde Michael trabajó como gerente de British Airways desde 1984 a 1987.[30]
