I can't say I've followed her career but her breakout album I Am had a few noteworthy tracks. "Your Lies" sounds like something John Lennon would have done in the 70's.

I love I Am Shelby Lynne and Just A Little Lovin', however when I delve into her material beyond those two, I don't really connect with it.

I am quite surprised she did so many albums though.

I like her early albums the best. Back when she used to sing the hell out of a song. I read some where that when she started recording I am Shelby Lynne Bill Bottrell told Shelby that if she keeps singing like that she will blow out her vocal cords. So now her vocals are more laid back . Tough all over, Temptation, Sunrise, and Restless are my favorite albums. When she use to perform an the Nashville network this little 5'1'' woman would belt out the songs and give you chills. When i saw her in 2000 at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto she did blow the roof off with her version of Mother but for the most part her vocals are more laid back now.

I think I Am Shelby Lynne is her masterwork but her early pop country stuff ain't bad. Restless in particular is a fine album. Meanwhile, I was shocked how disappointing Not Dark Yet turned out. At least as far as I'm concerned.

Too bad John didn't live long enough to hear this... he would've loved it:

I voted for "Just a Little Lovin'" but my favourite songs of hers are all on "Revelation Road" ("Woebegone," "Even Angels" and "I Don't Need A Reason To Cry").

Having said that, I think that "Identity Crisis" and especially "Suit Yourself" are great albums.

I Am Shelby Lynne. I saw it in record store when it was first released. No idea who Shelby was, or that it was not her debut album. The record store was playing the cd, and I took a chance. Still love that CD.

I also have Shelby's Christmas cd, and the Dusty Springfield tribute cd and that is nice too.

I only know three or four of her albums , Suit yourself is my favourite , just for her cover of Tony Joe White's For ol' times sake alone
her Dusty album is good, too but a bit anaemic and too close to the original versions

She didn't really get any traction outside traditional Country circles until I Am Shelby Lynne, which somehow changed her fortunes, and got her some AAA radio and college radio attention. Love, Shelby is probably my favorite, and I never got into her Dusty album. Just so many new artists and genres I was exploring back in the early 'aughts. I did see her in Minneapolis sometime around 2010, I believe, while cultivating a playlist for my own adult-targeted station.

  16. As a big fan of her voice I love it all, but Suit Yourself is my favourite. The raw, un-produced sound works perfectly for the songs and allows her voice to truly shine.

I've heard most but not all of her records.
From what I have heard, "I Am" was the one that has resonated with me the most so far, followed by "Suit Yourself". Her catalogue is surprisingly consistent and thanks to this thread I've decided to explore the remainder of it.

I'm having a hard time with this poll. I've got them all but have trouble picking a favorite.

Recent favorites: Self-Titled (2020) and The Healing (people need to hear this one!) are the Shelby albums that I revisit more than any others over the last four years. They were released 8 months apart in 2020. Both are top shelf.
Country years favorites: Until recently, I avoided listening to these albums. Now I realize that there are some great tracks sprinkled in on those five early albums. "Wish I Knew" and "Dog Day Afternoon" are among my favorite Shelby tracks.
Post-County favorites: I Am and Love, Shelby (next level would include Suit Yourself, Revelation Road). Both I Am and Love, Shelby have worthy outtakes that are essential for fans of those albums.

Mostly agree. "Not Dark Yet" and "My List" were very good. The rest left me disappointed. In my mind, the album didn't live up to the stellar reviews that I read.

    Yes! Especially "Bend":

Predictably I picked "I Am Shelby Lynne" but I love "Just A Little Lovin' " almost as much. She's a great singer with lots of great albums over her whole career.

After a lot of indecision, I voted for this one too.

Here is the original cover the The Healing that was only used for the first week after release:
