The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force is honoring and remembering the 26,000 airmen of the Eighth Air Force in World War II who never returned home with Flags for the Fallen: 26,000 Flags | One Mission.

Opening ceremonies begin at 10:30 am with a B-17 flyover and the final flags planted by World War II Eighth Air Force Veterans in honor of their fallen airmen.

This unique memorial flag garden of remembrance includes a 48-star American flag for each of the 26,000 men lost. The men of the Eighth in WWII served, and many are buried, under this flag.

The public is invited to experience the garden beginning on Friday, May 24, through Monday, May 27, Memorial Day, 2024.

Saturday programming continues with living historians throughout the day. A plaque dedication at 3:00 pm and a Remembrance Ceremony for the Freckleton Air Disaster at 4:00 pm in the Memorial Garden.

Sunday programming continues with a panel discussion with WWII Eighth Air Force Veterans at 12:30 pm, living historians throughout the day, the Memorial Garden, and a Candle Lighting Ceremony at 4:00 pm.

Memorial Day programming will conclude the weekend's events with a Wreath Laying Ceremony to include WWII Eighth Air Force Veterans, a B-17 flyover by "Sentimental Journey" and speeches to begin at 11:00 am. Living Historians and the Memorial Garden will be available throughout the day.
