You cannot miss Melody Ranch if you want to see a real set where they really shoot western movies like Django and Once upon a time in Hollywood and many more. Best value for money!

Toured Melody Ranch Studio with EJ Stephens from Newhallywood Tours the other day and it was the highlight of our trip to Southern California. EJ really knows his stuff, and has authored numerous books detailing the history of various movie studios and points of interest in the area. For anyone who’s a fan of Western movies and tv shows, it will knock your socks off to walk in the footsteps of those great Western stars of the past and present at Melody Ranch. As a Gunsmoke fan, it was a thrill to see where Matt Dillon, Kitty, Doc & Chester filmed the early seasons of the show. The museum on premises has an incredible collection of tv & movie memorabilia from Melody Ranch and beyond. Everyone we encountered at Melody treated us like family, from the owners to the guys working on the set. Thank you to all for an exceptional experience. It was a privilege to visit.

One thing I can say about this wonderful western town location....IT IS NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! It is a working Studio-Location and has been for over 60 years and owned by the Veluzat Family. But do not turn the page...There is hope! The Cowboy Poetry (isn't like it sounds) Festival is apporx every April in Santa Clarita. So...It is then you get to see the town. Now be prepared..They do not let you go inside the buildings. Because there is about 80-90% nothing there! There are a few that open up into alleged salons of the old west. Remember this is "Hollywoods" inception of the Old West. Is it worth the $12.00 to see the town with the festival? YES. for fans of Deadwood, Gunsmoke, and countless others...Yes a Must See!

I was lucky enough to be cast in the HBO TV program, Westworld, which shot some of its scenes here as well as maintaining here many of the costumes for the show. The entire compound is surrounded by tall walls and they only let you in if you are working on a project. There is a complete western town with practical buildings as well as fronts, railroad track & locomotive and a Mexican plaza.

I visited the Melody Ranch during the Cowboy Festival last year. If you are a western fan, this is the place for you. So many filming locations! You literally walk down the street of the old west town "'set". Great photo ops too, and kids have a blast.

I call myself the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival veteran since the year 2015 was my 6th year I attended this in the past terrific event. I have brought there a lots of friends over theses years and nobody was ever disappointed. This year looks like was my last year there. The venue was not the Melody Ranch but Old Town Newhall. Although I understand that the Melody Ranch was not available the Melody Ranch was the thing which made this event exceptional. BUT. Lost of the atmosphere would not by the biggest problem. The biggest problem I see is that this event turned to be strictly commercial. We paid $10 entrance fee which wast lower than usually but if we wanted to see some of our favorite performers we would have to purchase ticket for that particular event. There were a lots of opportunities to buy great food as usually but nobody bothered to prepare enough seats and tables. Although we used to be first coming and last leaving we left the event after two disappointing hours. We are never coming back if this event is not coming back to Melody Ranch and if it doesn't turn back from money maker to the terrific event we used to love. It looks like many of the people dressed in the old costumes who used to come to this event knew what is going to happen and they didn't show up. They made probably very painful but the best decision they could have made. The crowd was very different and this event turned to be very average fast food stuff which you can get every weekend on every corner.

Visiting Santa Clarita in the Springtime is the best time of the year. Be sure to check the dates for their Cowboy Festival in April and mosey on over to walk the streets where many of Hollywood's westerns have been filmed. If you plan far enough ahead you can order tickets online for many of their first class music groups. Street roping, cowboy peach pie, western wear, poetry, endless fun with lots of period costumes. It's a kick.
