Benoist revealed on her Instagram in September that her run as Kara Danvers, a.ka. Supergirl, is coming to an end after Season 6.

'To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless,' Benoist said.

'She’s had that impact on me, too. She’s taught me strength I didn’t know I had, to find hope in the darkest of places, and that we are stronger when we’re united. What she stands for pushes all of us to be better. She has changed my life for the better, and I’m forever grateful,' she added.

Benoist signed an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television in February, while also launching her production company Three Things Productions, via Deadline.

The exclusive multi-year deal is for Benoist to develop and produce original content for all of Warner Media's platforms, including HBO Max.

'I’ve had a wonderfully supportive home at Warner Bros. for the last six years, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to put on a producer’s hat and continue working with them,' she said in a statement back in February.

'I approach my work as an actor in search of that magic gut feeling you get when you know something is right. I plan on following those instincts as a producer, approaching each story with passion, playfulness, curiosity, a sure-footed step, and like all things worth taking a risk on, a hint of terror,' she added.

'I can’t wait to collaborate with new voices and find stories that hit the heart in that indefinable way,' Benoist concluded.

She also celebrated her husband of nearly two years, Chris Wood, with a helicopter snap, adding, 'Happy birthday, sweetheart. Odds are you won’t see this, but I felt like shouting from the rooftops how wonderful you are and how glad I am you were born.'
