What ever happened to informal trilogies? You know, using similar casts, exploring similar themes/parallels/crossing over.
The last director that I can think of that explored the idea of the "informal trilogy" would be Wong Kar-Wai. His trilogy consisted of "Days Of Being Wild", "In The Mood For Love" and "2046".
A few other directors that come to mind that have used this idea are Antonioni's early 60's trilogy of "L'Avventura", "La Notte", and "L'Eclisse". The other would be Yasujiro Ozu's "Noriko" trilogy.
Why don't we see this more often or am I just not fully aware?
Also, can you recommend other directors that explore this "formula"?
