I would say I had a positive view of Mcgavock, much more positive than others. I especially enjoyed the "academies" concept, where a student picks a subject (mech. engineering, music production, criminal justice, among many others) in freshman year to "specialize" into. I did Audio/Video Production, where we learned Adobe Photoshop and Premiere (among others) to make videos & get industry certifications. Mr. Randall, our teacher, was very engaged & active in the class, seeking only the best for us. He let us learn and create what we wanted, much like many other teachers, though obviously less strict on the learning part. Everything else left some to be desired; district funding issues, bathroom stalls were vandalized/closed down, fights were daily occurances & rules only got stricter: they now apparently require electronic passes to even go to the bathroom now! I truly appreciate the effort my teachers put in to teach and care for us students, despite everything happening around them.
Mcgavock High school has wonderful teachers, and many opportunities open to students. The sports programs are supported by students and fun to attend.
McGavock is a decent school, but they are not very experienced with students that have unique mental health experiences. Most teachers are exceptional and take the time to connect with their students, but with so many teachers leaving we have substitutes who, to put it plainly, should not be around kids. It is a very large school, so in turn it is home to many varieties of cockroaches and rodents. Although, our new principal seems to be on the right track to be turning this school around.
