Adorable story about manners. My child is just learning to start sounding out words and recognize sight words. We read it together and I point while he recognizes and sounds out the words that I stop at. Lots of repeated words but a few new ones. After we read we often share a cookie together 😉 Perfectly age and reading level appropriate for 4 year old or older.

"May I Please Have a Cookie?" from the Scholastic Readers Level 1 collection is an absolute treat for young readers. It's like opening a jar of freshly baked cookies - warm, comforting, and utterly delightful.

The simplicity of the language is like a gentle hug for beginners. It's easy to follow and encourages early readers to gain confidence with each page turn. The repetitive phrasing is like the familiar scent of cookies baking, creating a sense of comfort and familiarity.

The illustrations are like the sprinkles on top of the cookie. They're colorful, engaging, and perfectly complement the story. Each page feels like a visual adventure, making the reading experience even more enjoyable for little ones.

The storyline is like a recipe for good manners and kindness. It gently teaches the importance of using polite words and asking for things nicely. It's a valuable lesson wrapped in a sweet, cookie-filled tale that kids can easily relate to.

In summary: "May I Please Have a Cookie?" - a delightful read for young cookie enthusiasts! It's like having a cookie-themed storytime that leaves a sweet taste in the reader's heart. With its engaging language, charming illustrations, and valuable life lesson, this book is a must-have for any young reader's collection. Cookies, anyone?

This may sound strange but I bought this book for a baby shower and my 4 yr old granddaughter saw it before the shower date and wanted me to read it to her. I did and she loved the story and now I have to order her one. This book teaches little ones how to ask for things. Now I hear my granddaughter telling hers dolls how to ask for things. I love how good books can teach good things.

I got a level one reading book for my 5 year old granddaughter that’s in Pre-K, (she has a late birthday). Halfway through the book she’s cheering, “I’m reading!”. Of course I’m sold, and I bought three more today. Not only will these books help your little one start reading, they are also fun books that keep a young child engaged. Each page is brightly colored and illustrated with short sentences. There are many common sight words and repeated words that will help build a child’s confidence. Definitely a recommended beginner readers book.

Super adorable illustrations accompany this imaginative story about a little alligator that wants a cookie. Little Alfie tries everything to get a cookie, but his mom keeps saying no.

Finally, with a little help from mom, he figures out that he needs to say please.

The best part about this story were the illustrations. They were absolutely fantastic, and perfect for the age level. The word choices were simple and the text was nice and large to make identifying letters and words easier for beginning readers. There were just a few words to each page, making it a nice length and not too intimidating for a child that is just learning to read.

Sometimes I feel like children's books get a little too preachy and try to teach a lesson too often. Most of the time when my kids or I read a book, it is simply for entertainment. However, the clever ways that Alphie comes up with to get a cookie balance out the "lesson" of the book so that it doesn't come off as overly preachy.

Recomendo
