Roth was born on 15 September 1964, in the United States of America, and is an actor, best known for his role in the sitcom entitled “Roseanne” in which he portrayed the abusive boyfriend of Jackie from 1992 to 1993. He also worked on the television series “Desperate Housewives” as the character Art Shephard.

Career Beginnings

Matt made his acting debut in 1990 in the television movie “Goodnight Sweet Wife: A Murder in Boston”. In 2006, he appeared in another notable role in the television series “Desperate Housewives”, which aired on ABC and followed the lives of a group of women living in the same street in a fictional town. Over eight seasons, the show followed 13 years of the women’s lives, including flashforward segments and flashbacks. Stars of the show included Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, and Marcia Cross, who all received good reviews and ratings, winning multiple awards during its run. In 2012, he appeared in “Modern Family” as the character Skip Woosnum. The sitcom follows a mockumentary format, featuring the family of Jay Pritchett who live in the suburban side of Los Angeles. The show received a lot of acclaim early during its run, but things waned down as the seasons progressed. He had four guest roles in 2014, with work in “Perception” and “Longmire”, the latter a crime drama based on the Craig Johnson novel series entitled “Walt Longmire Mysteries”. The titular character is a sheriff in a fictional county in Wyoming.

A few of his last projects during the year include a guest appearance in “Castle”. Since then, he has not taken any new acting projects.

Personal Life

Roth started a relationship with Laurie Metcalf while starring alongside her in “Roseanne”. It gained a bit of attention thanks to the two playing a couple on camera, though Roth’s character was abusive. They had a child together and were married shortly afterwards. The two worked on several more projects together, and later had a child born through surrogacy in 2005.

They also adopted a second son in 2006 but two years after that, it was reported that the couple had separated. Three years later he filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and which was finalized in 2014.

A year after his divorce, he married Stephanie Childers at around the time he stopped taking acting projects. There have been no new romances on Laurie’s end, but she admitted to b=having been a workaholic, which may have contributed to the downfall of their marriage.
