FBI: International has promoted executive producer Matt Olmstead to the position of showrunner for the series’ upcoming Season 3, TVLine has learned.
The staffing change comes as Dick Wolf’s multiple primetime dramas on CBS and NBC shore up leadership for the TV season ahead and re-open their writers rooms following the Writers Guild of America strike.
Olmstead is a known entity at Wolf Entertainment; he previously served as showrunner on NBC’s Chicago Fire and co-created Chicago P.D.
At NBC’s Chicago Fire, former co-showrunner Andrea Newman will hold the post solo for Season 12. Her former co-showrunner, Derek Haas, exited the show in November 2022. He also preceded Olmstead as FBI: International‘s boss.
Over in the Law & Orderverse, the Chris Meloni-led Organized Crime still has not replaced Sean Jablonski, who left as showrunner in March and who was the fourth showrunner to oversee the procedural in a year. SVU head David Graziano stepped in to help with Season 3’s final episodes; a new show boss will be determined for the spinoff’s shortened Season 4.
Meanwhile, Graziano will return to lead SVU nearly a year after a Los Angeles Times report that alleged he engaged in unprofessional and bullying behavior on the set of his previous series, Coyote. In a statement at the time, Graziano said: “Though it would be easy and convenient, I refuse to blame some past behavior on the abuse I suffered and learned as a child at the hands of a Catholic priest as well as my own mother. For anyone who has worked as a showrunner or in a writers’ room, you must draw on and use your own experience. Particularly for a show like Law & Order: SVU, I regrettably have a lot to draw from and with it brings a great deal of emotion. All any of us can do is evolve and grow. Real change is hard, and I continue to work on myself.”
Leadership at Wolf Entertainment’s other series remains as it was last season. Rick Eid will run Law & Order Season 23 and FBI Season 6, Gwen Sigan will run Chicago P.D. Season 11, Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider will run Chicago Med Season 9, and David Hudgins will run FBI: Most Wanted Season 5. In addition, Tim Walsh will head up Season 1 of Prime Video’s On Call.
Do you have thoughts about the leadership on your favorite Wolf shows? Let us hear ’em in the comments!
I believe, and I know that other people say things are not quite right behind the scenes of Dick Wolf’s shows. I am not surprised about these changes.
Unfortunately, NBC will never have the courage to cancel any of them because Dick Wolf practically has the network held hostage.
They have got bland now
I think they should have replaced David Hudgins on Most Wanted..That show is a total waste of time slot!
I’d love to know why there were so many cast changes on Most Wanted. Original cast was great.
I just want to know if Severide will be back?
I’ve spoken to my sources and they say he’ll be out for the next season as well.
Your sources in WWE?
Aren’t all shows going to be on shortened seasons because of the strikes not just L&O:OC? Don’t understand why they haven’t identified someone to take over as showrunner at this point. You would have thought someone senior like Matt Olmstead would have been the perfect person to steady that ship considering the number of showrunners that they’ve gone through already.
Ah come on, Graziano “refuses” to blame past things but then conveniently name drops these things aka try to emotional manipulate people to try and justify their very bad behaviour aka get out of jail free card
shame on him!
OC sucks, so I’m not surprised they don’t have a showrunner, and L&O SVU season 24 was the worst season ever; right up there with the whole William Lewis episodes in the early 2011-2012 years. It’s not the same and I won’t be watching!
Last season of PD was shockingly poor, it’s almost like they want it to be cancelled at this point, not holding the terrible showrunner accountable.
Well the Chicago Fire is the same soap opera becoming the new Bold And Beautiful. Nothing changes horrible writing. It would time to cancel these and find something new already. Beating dead horse.
Does it really matter? If the actors don’t settle soon we won’t have a season anyway.
If the actors don’t settle soon we won’t have a 2023-24. So this may not matter at all.
Id say Chicago Med is the hottest mess of these all, but its hard to pick. Most Wanted is a,mess too.
I’m totally fine with as long as they don’t send in new love interests for Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson and mess up the possibilities of them getting together romantically. If they would break up Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess together romantically and send in new love interests for them both. If they would bring in Froster from Chicago Fire to become the new doctor of Chicago Med. Bring new police officers mix Black, White and Spanish police officers for Chicago PD keep Torres on bring back Jay Halstead back to Hayley Upton. Get a love interests for Kevin Atwater such as Wendy Seager, Violet, Dr Scott’s sister as Kevin Atwater love interests. Get Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett engaged and back together romantically again. And get Fin and Phoebe married or a new love interests for Fin.
Screw all the love interests. If that’s what you want, go watch some soap operas. Get PD back on track by sticking to procedurals. And for God’s sake keep Halstead in Bolivia or wherever the hell he is and send Upton to join him.
This!
Amen sister
You seem to be confusing crime dramas with d-list garbage on the CW.

Stabler needs his “statement clothing”. He’s jerked back and fourth, in a suit, in jeans . We need to know what he’s after, we just don’t know. And maybe it should be an anthology series. We need more info on who he’s after and up against. It needs more that an hour of story. More ..
For the love of respectability please someone give Mariska Hargitay less screen-time over on Law & Order: SVU! Olivia Benson is the Captain on SVU now, she should be delegating the bulk of the investigating and crime-solving to the detectives serving under her while she deals with all the bureaucracy and management of the Special Victims Unit instead of being actively involved in cases. Sure, every now and then is fine but not every case! It’s coming off like she doesn’t trust anyone to do their jobs on cases or at the very worst, she thinks they’re incompetent without her.
Hire a good show runner for OC. Chris Meloni and the rest of the cast deserve it. OC is a fantastic show, great cast and great stories. Don’t mess it up!
Damn it. International is the one FBI show I haven’t watched outside of crossovers tried OG never clicked with it liked MW until Remy became too cartoonish. But Olmstead headed the golden years of CPD and he co created organized crime.
FBI International has been excellent… keep it going Matt Olmstead in season 3! Let’s get some Emmy nods for this great bunch of actors, too! Thanks. Pk
I miss Ebonee Noel….
I was hoping for a different show runner for PD!
It’s about time they got back to work; I’ve missed my Law And Order and Chicago Fire 🚒🔥 drama’s during the strike. GET TO WORK people!!!!!!!! 🚒🔥🧯👍😎🆒
