Lincoln council election candidates announced ahead of May vote
Voting booths will soon welcome the public to cast their ballots for the next wave of City of Lincoln councillors. This year, a third of the council's 33 seats are up for grabs, with one seat available in each of the 11 wards when voting takes place on Thursday, May 2.
Currently led by Labour with a tally of 20 councillors, the local authority also includes nine Conservatives and four Liberal Democrats. Earlier this year, council leader Ric Metcalfe revealed his decision not to seek re-election, opting instead to retire after 42 years of dedication to public service.
The 81-year-old councillor first entered the political arena in 1982 when he was elected as the councillor for Minster ward, securing a majority of 38.6 per cent. He held this position until 1999 when boundary changes led to his election as a councillor for Glebe ward. He then ascended to the position of council leader in 2011.

Elections are also being held for Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner and Grantham Town Council on the same day. Lincolnshire County Council will not be taking part this year, with its next election due in 2025.
