Martinsville native, Mary Ellen Adkins, gained eternal rest at the age of 94 on Monday, April 22nd, 2024, at 8:29 am. She was the last surviving of three children born to Gilbert E. Stiles and Esther Lee (Baldwin) Stiles Whitley. Mary Ellen was born on Monday, December 23rd, 1929, in Martinsville, Indiana.

She was an administrative assistant at the Morgan County Memorial Hospital in Martinsville for over twenty years, retiring in 1990. Prior to working at the hospital, she had been employed at Hayes Pharmacy, also in Martinsville.

Mary was a longtime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #230 in Martinsville. She and her late husband, Kenneth “Donk” Adkins, had been actively involved in the American Legion for many years. Mary loved to socialize and was the life of the party! She also enjoyed painting, traveling, playing cards, visiting the beach, and spending time with her family and friends. Any who knew her would agree that she also loved dogs.

Mary will be remembered by her family and friends for her love for life and spunky attitude. She is survived by her two sons, Terry (wife, Jeannette) Adkins of Brownsburg, IN, and Tony (wife, Tracy) Adkins of Fountain Hills, AZ; three beloved grandchildren, Scott Adkins, Jennifer (husband, Drew) Colton and Courtney Adkins; one step grandchild, Jordan (wife, Kaitlyn) Hollingsworth and eight great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, Kenneth “Donk” Adkins who died on December 11th, 2009, she was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Stiles, and a sister, Barbara Barker.

Mary’s family has honored her final wishes for cremation. Her earthly remains will be inurned beside her late husband in New South Park Cemetery, Martinsville.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville.
