Godfather Coda

Synopsis:

Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of The Godfather: Part III, director/screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola brings a definitive new edit and restoration of the final film in his epic Godfather trilogy—Mario Puzo’s THE GODFATHER, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone.

Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), now in his 60s, seeks to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire. That successor could be fiery Vincent (Andy Garcia)... but he may also be the spark that turns Michael's hope of business legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence. The film’s meticulously restored picture and sound, under the supervision of American Zoetrope and Paramount Pictures, includes a new beginning and ending, as well as changes to scenes, shots, and music cues. The resulting project reflects author Mario Puzo and Coppola’s original intentions of The Godfather: Part III, and delivers, in the words of Coppola, “a more appropriate conclusion to The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II.”

Product review: the box looked a little bit crumpled, especially in the corners, which sucks because this is a new product. The Bluray worked perfectly.Movie review: the best changes are in the structure of the movie. The scene order is way more organized, making it easier to follow. However, there are some scenes from the original cut that I missed, and of course the substancial flaws of the movie (such as the absence of Tom Hagen and the romance between Mary and Vincent) are still there. I have always liked the Godfather 3, albeit less than the other 2, and tbh I didn't feel this was fundamentally different from the original cut.SPOILERSI don't know why they decided to cut the scene where Connie, Al Neri and Vincent decide together that Joey Zasa was to be murdered. That scene not only gave much more power to Connie and Al, but it showed that it wasn't Vincent's rash judgement or petty vengeance. Removing it makes it seem like Vincent just did it because he could, acting just like Sonny's son. And while I'm conflicted because the movie is called "The Death of Michael Corleone" but he doesn't die, I loved the ending text saying how Sicilians wished him Cent'anni and Sicilians never forget.
