This isn't your regular bowl of pho.

Slow-cooked and simmered in broth for up to 48 hours, it's served with tender short ribs and high-end ingredients like Wagyu beef slices, foie gras and shaved truffles – and topped off with an edible gold leaf. Duck fat is also added for extra richness.

The cost? A staggering $262.35 (4.1 million Vietnamese dong).

And only five bowls are served daily.

"Pho is Vietnam's national dish, enjoyed anywhere and at any time of day… and I wanted to pay homage with this opulent new version," said Le Trung, executive chef at the Oriental Pearl restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City.

The restaurant is located at the Vinpearl Landmark 81, Autograph Collection, which is the highest hotel in the country.

Trung told CNN Travel that although his special pho uses high-quality imported ingredients, he followed the traditional way of cooking it – gently simmering marrow bones, rich oxtail, chicken carcasses and prime short ribs with spices like cinnamon and star anise for two days to create "a wonderfully deep, rich flavor.

"This is my re-imagining of one of the world's most popular dishes," Trung said of his culinary creation, "Traditionally, pho has not been considered fine dining, but we have managed to enhance the flavors to make this version taste wonderfully rich and indulgent."

Adding the gold leaf, Trung says, was to "elevate the dish aesthetically … so it does not simply look like an ordinary bowl of noodle soup."

Arguably one of Vietnam's most famous dishes, pho is eaten morning, noon and night and widely served across the country in homes, street stalls and restaurants.

While also beloved around the world, foodies and pho aficionados say the humble noodle dish reflects the cultural, political and economic changes of Vietnam.

At its most basic, it consists of plain rice noodles in beef or sometimes chicken broth, garnished with herbs and thinly sliced meat.

Served in alleyways and on street corners in Vietnamese cities, a typical bowl costs anywhere between $1.50 to $3.

Oriental Pearl's indulgent pho bowl will set you back at least 50 times as much.

And it isn't the only expensive offering in town.

Michelin-starred restaurant Anan Saigon, also located in Ho Chi Minh City, has offered an upscale take on pho using unconventional ingredients like caviar, Japanese sake, jellyfish and sturgeon slices – priced at $US 100 (approx. $154.11), a bargain in comparison.

Trung believes his latest offering is the most indulgent bowl of pho in the world.

"We (wanted) to elevate this culinary classic to new levels of luxury and sophistication while also pushing the boundaries of Vietnamese cuisine," Trung said.

"The result is a spectacular bowl of pho that lingers on the taste buds and in the memory."

Keep your hands steady: a scoop of this exquisite delight is probably going to cost more than all the ice cream you will have throughout multiple summers.

The frozen dessert, called byakuya – "white night" in Japanese – is currently fetching 880,000 yen (A$9542) for a serving, officially making it the most expensive ice cream in the world, according to Guinness World Records.

Japanese ice cream brand Cellato calls white night a gelato on its website, and the name is a hint to its Italian origins.

Sourced exclusively from Alba – home to what many consider the best white truffles in Italy – that ingredient alone could rake in as much as two million yen ($14,500) per kilogram, said an article published on the Guinness World Records website last week.

The ice cream is topped off by an edible gold leaf, two types of cheese and "Sakekasu," a paste-like ingredient derived from the process of sake-making.

"It took us over 1.5 years to develop, with a lot of trials and errors to get the taste right," a representative from the company told Guinness World Records earlier.

The company said its mission isn't just about making mouthwateringly expensive desserts but to create a culinary adventure that merges European ingredients and traditional Japanese foods.

For that, it brought in Tadayoshi Yamada, the head chef at RiVi, an Osaka-based restaurant known for its French-Japanese fusion cuisine, to steer the project, according to Guinness World Records.

The dessert is available for sale in Japan and is shipped directly to consumers, according to Cellato's website.

Sampling the treat comes with almost equal precision, as Cellato sets out meticulous steps to govern the way it should be consumed once it arrives.

Patrons are instructed to pour in the white truffle at the right texture just as the ice cream softens up, before mixing it with a handcrafted metal spoon given to them.

They are advised to let the ice cream defrost at room temperature or microwave it at 500 watts for 10 to 20 seconds, if the texture is too hard.

While the Guinness World Records team has not had a chance to sample the dessert, Cellato earlier offered a tasting session for its staff, who described the treat to the record-keeping body as "rich in taste and texture."

In addition, they recommended pairing the tasting with sake or a French white wine.

Cellato, which also has a black truffle-based offering on its menu, said it plans to diversify its eye-wateringly expensive product line to include Champagne and caviar in the future.

A restaurant in Philadelphia is serving a burger that costs US$700 ($1,053).

DBC, the Drury Beer Garden, is called the burger 'The Gold Standard.'

According to the New York Post the burger is made of high-grade A5 Wagyu beef with the additions of caviar, truffle, lobster flambeed with Louis XIII cognac, gold leaf and Wexford aged Irish cheddar.

Just when you thought this couldn't be more decadent, the burger is served with a side of fries drizzled in rare Manuka Honey produced from the nectar of the mānuka tree that is native to New Zealand.

The honey alone can cost US$816 ($1,214).

The cognac is aged for 40 years.

Now this is a burger that justifies licking your plate.

April 14, 2023: One lucky Australian Shapes fan stumbled across an "ultra-rare" conjoined biscuit and is now attempting to sell it for the low low price of $10,500.

The seller, based in Queensland, listed the unusual conjoined Cheddar Shape biscuit on Facebook Marketplace for a whopping asking price, attracting the attention of the team at Arnott's.

"ULTRA RARE JOINED CHEESE SHAPE, I KNOW WHAT I GOT SO NO LOW BALLERS!" the seller, Erik, wrote on social media.

According to Arnott's, Erik has had a handful of bids at around $1500.

After noticing the advertisement, the company behind the iconic Aussie snack has shared a very generous counteroffer to the original price.

Arnott's is offering Erik one year's worth of Chicken Crimpy Shapes in exchange for the conjoined biscuit.

"We heard that Aussies are bidding $1.5k for this rare conjoined Cheddar Shapes being sold on FB Marketplace," Arnott's said in a statement on social media.

"To the seller Erik – how about one year's worth of Chicken Crimpy Shapes in return for your conjoined Cheddar Shapes?"

No word on whether Erik has accepted the offer.

February 6, 2023: A Reddit user might have found the most expensive ice in an alcoholic beverage.

A copy of a receipt, posted by u/forum437, shows the charge of US$2 (A$3) for the frozen water in a shot of Basil Hayden's bourbon whisky.

"Only in Massachusetts do you get charged $2 for the rocks in your drink," the caption on the photo read.

The drink was bought at Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse within Boston Logan International Airport. 

Some have commented that a hefty price is unsurprising at a place like an airport.

"Also even if it wasn't a thing, this guy's in the airport where everything is wicked expensive," one Reddit user wrote.

The $3 might not seem like a bit deal to some, but add that to the cost of the whisky shot of US$13 (A$19).

A single shot with ice cost $22.

January 22, 2023: Brooklyn Peltz Beckham and his wife Nicola have flaunted their impressive wine collection on Instagram.

The 23-year-old son of football legend David Beckham shared a glimpse of his luxury wine cellar, with one vintage bottle worth more than most people's yearly rent.

One bottle of wine in Brooklyn's cellar, which was a Chateau Mouton Rothschild from 2003, is priced at £7,150 (approx. $12,723).

Another one of the bottles, a Petrus from 1979, costs around $4110 online.

It's not the first time the amateur chef has been spotted drinking an expensive drop.

Brooklyn and Nicola were also seen dining on a $7000 bottle of wine during their honeymoon in St. Tropez.

November 4, 2022: If you're happy to drop a cool $15,000 on a single cocktail, Sydney bar Dean and Nancy on 22 and Melbourne's Sky Bar will be serving this lavish cocktail to celebrate Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned Week.

The bourbon-based drink could be Australia's most expensive cocktail, after mixologists came together to create the classic old fashioned blend using a limited-edition $3000 bottle of Woodford Reserve, gold-infused Chateau d'Yquem, handmade saffron, and vanilla bitters.

The two bars will be serving the Gold Fashioned from November 5-14.

"We know the price tag is big, but we think every dollar is worth the 'Woodford Gold Fashioned'," said Stefano Filardi, lead bartender at Sydney's Dean and Nancy on 22.

"And for everyone else looking to enjoy a bit of luxury without the investment, we have a list of cocktails and exciting things on offer during Old Fashioned Week that won't cost an arm and a leg."

Patrons who purchase the cocktail on the premise will also receive a cocktail kit to recreate the experience of a luxury old fashioned at home.

30 May, 2022: The world's largest bottle of whiskey, called "The Intrepid," has sold to an international collector for about $US1.4 million (approx. $1.9 million), according to auction house Lyon and Turnbull.

The bottle, standing 180 centimetres tall, was given the Guinness World Record in September 2021. It contains 82.16 US gallons, or 311 litres. That's the equivalent of 444 standard bottles –enough for 5,287 whiskey sours made with 60 millilitres of whiskey each.

The liquor is a 1989 Macallan single malt that spent 32 years maturing in oak casks at Macallan's Scotland distillery before being bottled in 2021.

The Intrepid project was created as a collaboration between Fah Mai, a Thailand-based investment company, and Rosewin Holdings, a London-based firm, which invest in whiskey and other spirits.

The project's founder, Daniel Monk, was inspired by his father's "passion for adventure, exploration." The label on the bottle features 11 explorers, including Ranulph Fiennes and Robin Knox-Johnston.

The auction will support several charities, including Marie Curie and Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

13 April, 2022: Dan Murphy's has opened The Cellar in Sydney, which has some of the world's most hard-to-find wines for sale.

The premium Cellar store in Lane Cove is selling a $160,000 bottle of 1951 Penfolds Grange.

There are estimated to be around 35 bottles of the first vintage of Penfolds Grange in existence in the world.

All of The Cellar's most premium wines can be found in its Icon Room, which houses fine wines starting from $150.

April 8, 2022: BLACK Bar & Grill at The Star Sydney is adding one of the rarest and most exclusive cuts of Wagyu steak in the world to its menu this month, for a limited time only.

Named for its lucky price tag of $888.88, the 'Five 8s Lucky Tomahawk Steak' is the result of a long-term partnership between Executive Chef Dany Karam and Blackmore Wagyu, an award-winning and internationally-renowned Australian producer of 100 per cent Fullblood Wagyu beef.

January 5, 2022: A new study by Chef's Pencil has ranked the world's priciest restaurant set menus, with an intimate 12-seater dining experience in Ibiza taking the crown.

Sublimotion in Ibiza, located within the Hard Rock Hotel, topped the list, with a tasting menu that'll set you back around $2400 per person. But you'll get a lot more than great food for your coin.

Helmed by Paco Roncero, a culinary legend in Spain with two Michelin stars under his belt, the tech-laden dining experience is as much about fun as it is about delicious food.

Over 15 courses, diners are taken on a multi-sensory excursion, featuring 360-degree screens that project imagery onto every surface. The staff double as performers and the dishes only enhance the theatrics.

December 16, 2021: Iconic Bondi Beach restaurant Icebergs Dining Room and Bar have added this summer's most opulent margarita to the drinks menu — priced at an eye-watering $180.

Why the steep price tag? Well for a start, the limited cocktail features the last remaining Aussie supply of an extremely rare tequila, Don Julio Real, of which there is only one bottle available for purchase in Australia (currently retailing for $999, if you're in the market). Unlike your typical tequila, this one has been meticulously crafted and aged for five years in American oak.

And because it's Icebergs, the marg forgoes the usual salt rim and hit of lime for a delicate combination of Queensland lime zest macerated in raw agave sugar, soda water, house made orange bitters, citrus tincture and saline. After teaming with the smokey Don Julio Real, it's served over a glass-clear cube of ice, and a garnish of finger lime caviar on a mother of pearl spoon.

It's apparently the first high-end cocktail to hit the Bondi Beach bar in a series, set to roll out over summer.

Once that Don Julio Reals gone, it's gone, so don't wait to try it.

December 13, 2021: It's not often the bottle opener is pricier than the bottle it's opening.

Popular Aussie beer brand James Squire has just unveiled Australia's most valuable bottle opener, set to go under the hammer for an eye-watering $30,000.

The posh bottle opener was specially crafted over 150 hours by renowned designer Neil Ferrier to help launch their James Squire Pioneers' Collection.

No expense was spared to create the single-use tool, with the brand tapping a team of artists who specialise in the materials used to create the one-off piece.

The bottle opener is made using sterling silver, burl walnut, grade 5 titanium and incredibly rare Damascus steel — the same used to create ancient swords. The latter took around three years to source, according to the brand.

The bottle opener is set to be auctioned off online, with all proceeds being donated to Rural Aid.

If you've got a spare 30,000 quid to splash on a bottle opener, you may like to get your hands on one of their limited James Squire's Pioneers' Collection Release No.01, with just 5000 750ml bottles available, retailing for $49.

July 14, 2021: A New York restaurant has claimed a Guinness World Record for serving up a bowl of $270 fries.

Serendipity3, a Manhattan institution, reopened its doors last week with a grand launch party.

Regulars may have noted a new addition on the menu — a US$200 (approx. $270) bowl of French fries, dubbed the 'Crème de la Crème Pomme Frites.'

The fancy fries, which feature truffle and gold dust among other lavish accoutrements, came in time for National French Fry Day (July 13).

Now Guinness World Records has officially recognised the diner's efforts by naming the potato dish the world's most expensive fries.

June 8, 2021: You know global BTS mania is in full effect when actual human people start reselling packets of the Korean boy band's sweet chilli sauce for up to $400 a pop.

Last week, McDonald's Australia launched the long-awaited BTS meal, along with a limited-edition collab merch line.

The meal comprises the band's so-called signature order of 10 Chicken McNuggets, a fries, a Coke, and sweet chilli and Cajun dipping sauces inspired by items on the South Korean McDonald's menu (where the iconic boy band hail from).

But despite the entire meal only retailing for between $10.90 and $12.50, folks have started flogging packets of the special sauces on eBay for upwards of $18 a pop — and as much as $400 for bundles featuring "mint condition" BTS meal boxes.

Just to reiterate — the sauce is still very much available to purchase, as part of a meal, for less than $11.Confused yet?

One eBay seller, xk2008-4, has bafflingly listed five Sweet Chilli and five Cajun sauces for an eye-watering $300 price tag.

Another seller, named isaac191109, is hoping to sell a BTS meal box along with four packets of Sweet Chilli sauce for a whopping $400. And it doesn't even come with the nuggets.

June 8, 2021: One cashed-up eBay user has made headlines after bidding almost $100,000 on a single Chicken McNugget shaped like a character from 'Among Us' — a cult multiplayer video game that gained popularity during the pandemic.

The nugget was part of a BTS meal, first listed for the price of 99 cents before a bidding war ensued, culminating in a final bid of $99,997.

The interest around the nugget has baffled many, with the recipient set to receive the single nug frozen and air-sealed for freshness, according to the description.

October 9, 2017: Over the weekend, Rick and Morty fans bum-rushed McDonald's stores all over the US to try and get their mitts on the now legendary vintage Szechuan sauce, which is having a major comeback thanks to the hit series.

Unfortunately what should have been a day of sauce-fuelled festivities, resulted in straight-out pandamonium, with the fast food giant unable to keep up with demand, and many stores allegedly selling out of the sauce before the 2pm launch time.

While hundreds of fans who missed out took to Twitter to vent their frustrations at the poorly executed stunt, one enterprising — but clearly very evil — bloke decided to cash in on the tragedy.

The man, pictured above, allegedly had desperate fans lining up to buy pitiful single dips of his Szechuan sauce — at US$10 ($12.85) a dunk.

In the footage, the evil genius in question can be seen standing around McDonald's pocketing what looks to be notes of cash in exchange for a quick dip.

January 8, 2019: A wealthy businessman just broke a record after forking out more than $3 million for a single bluefin tuna. 

The first tuna auction of the year was held at Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo. 

Over the weekend, dozens of buyers walked along row after row of giant tuna, examining the fish before making their bid.

The highest bidder was Kiyoshi Kimura, the self-styled "King of Tuna" who paid $3 million for the 612-pound ($278kg) bluefin.

"It's a good tuna, but I think I paid too much" Mr Kimura told reporters after the auction.
