AKSNOWICZ

It is with great sadness that the family of CZESIA AKSNOWICZ, beloved wife of the late Alfons Aksnowicz, announce her passing at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the age of 90 years.

Czesia will be lovingly remembered by Gina (Larry) Wojtowicz, and Alice (Dan) Renning; grandchildren Jen Buit, Justin (Jocelyn) Buit and Kevin Renning; great-grandchildren Tristan, Jaelynn, Janae, Vincent, Violet and Xavier. She is also survived by brothers Anthony (Theresa) Kuziomko and Nick (Lorette) Kuziomko, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her loving husband Alfons, she was predeceased by her son Robert; son-in-law Jack Buit; parents Amelia and Anthony Kuziomko; brothers Stanley and George Kuziomko; her in-laws Malvina and Adam Aksnowicz and dearest friends Helena and Jan Pietkiewicz.

Czesia was born to Amelia and Anthony Kuziomko on March 8, 1932 in Jankowieze, Poland, the second of five children. When the Second World War broke out, Czesia and her family were loaded on trains and taken to various German camps throughout the war. The family survived the war and they immigrated to Canada in 1949, arriving by ship in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They then travelled by train to Barnwell, Alberta, to work in the sugar beet fields. 1949 was also the year she met the love of her life, Alfons, and they were married on May 13, 1950. Czesia and Alfons began their lives together in Southern Alberta, where they raised three children and celebrated 68 blessed years together.

Czesia and Alfons purchased a farm near Picture Butte, where she enjoyed creating her beautiful flowerbeds. Every year, she would search many garden centres with her daughter and granddaughter, finding something new to plant and expand her flowerbeds. Alfons would shake his head every time the car was unloaded, but they enjoyed swinging in their backyard together, admiring the view. She also planted an enormous vegetable garden, where she would freeze and preserve the harvest.

Czesia also loved to keep herself busy cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her family. She enjoyed going to the Polish dances (oh how she loved to dance!) and volunteer her time in the kitchen for these events. She also looked forward to camping each year in Radium, British Columbia, soaking in the hot springs and visiting with many friends. Czesia and Alfons travelled to visit family in Toronto, Montreal, Chicago and Poland.

Most of all, she cherished and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Czesia was a woman of great faith. Our family is comforted in knowing she is now with her Saviour and surrounded by loved ones.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered forever.

A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Santiago Torres officiating.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 9:30 A.M. with Father Kevin Tumback celebrating.

Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

BATHGATE

Kathaleen “Kaye” Pearl Bathgate passed away at the age of 90 in the Chinook Regional Hospital on June 15th, 2022, after a full day with her son and daughter by her side.

Kaye was predeceased by her husband, Frank; parents, Cecil and Hattie (Mitz) Wooldridge; sister, Loreen Kirk; and brothers-in-law: Gary Kirk, Richard Harley, and Bob Bathgate.

She is survived by her son and daughter, Kirk and Tracy (Kevin Southwell); grandsons Sam (Amber) and Devin Bathgate; and great-grandchildren Harley, Flynn and Atlas. She is also survived by her loving sisters: Doreen Harley, Faye McMillan (Stuart), and Gaye McVean (David); as well as their families; and her “adoptive” Linders family. Kaye remained in touch with Frank’s surviving family in British Columbia and England.

Kaye was born in Ebor, Manitoba on December 19, 1931, but lived most of her life in Lethbridge, where she grew up and raised her family. Throughout her life, Kaye had a long-standing and important involvement with St. Augustine’s Anglican Church. For the last thirteen years she resided at Black Rock Terrace where the residents and staff became close friends. At Black Rock, Kaye played countless card games with friends, enjoyed musical presentations, and engaged in pretty much any other activity that came along. She enthusiastically pursued her own craft of plastic canvas embroidery, creating hundreds of colourful stars.

The family extends their profound thanks to the Black Rock staff, who created a comfortable home for Kaye; homecare staff, who supported her there; Dr. Andrew Bridge, who visited her many times at home; and the medical and support staff of the Chinook Regional Hospital, who cared for her in her final days.

A memorial service will be held later, the date and further information to follow.

CLIFTON

BETTY BLY CLIFTON passed away on Sunday June 19, 2022, at the Raymond Hospital in Raymond Alberta. Betty was born on September 2, 1934, to Harold and Irene Bly in Magrath Alberta.

Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, Edward (Ted) Clifton, in 2014 after 60 years of marriage. Betty will be sadly missed by her children, Craig (Terry) Clifton, Janet (Corwyn) Miller, Brent (Shauna) Clifton and Carroll (Tim) Bullock.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her children and her 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Betty loved Family History and helped many people with finding their ancestors. Betty was known for her love of Christmas and her beautiful yard in the summer.

Betty was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was called to serve in various callings within the church throughout her life. Betty and Ted in 1994 served a full-time mission in the McAllen Texas Mission.

During their lives, Betty and Ted travelled to various destinations around the world with friends and family. One of the highlights was their trip to Israel and Egypt.

Betty’s love for her Savior was evident to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ken Dahl and the Dahl Clinic for their attentive care of our mother over the last few years, along with the Raymond Hospital Nurses and staff who showed Mom such great care and love during the last few weeks of her life.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday June 23, 2022 at 11:00 am, at the MAGRATH STAKE CENTRE in Magrath, Alberta with Bishop Tim Sabey officiating. There will be a meet the family on Wednesday evening, only, from 7:00-8:00 pm at the GARDEN PLACE CHAPEL in Magrath, Alberta. The interment will precede the funeral services in the Magrath Cemetery.

WALTER GERALD FALK, beloved husband of Elvera Falk, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, June 20, 2022 at the age of 83 years.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, on Monday, June 27, 2022 – 1614, 5th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, with Pastor Mark Archibald officiating.

FYFE

VERL MORGAN FYFE, treasured husband of Myrna Hartley Fyfe, best girl dad to Tanya (Monte) Smith, Lori (Mark) Kapiczowski, LeeAnn (Wayne) Barker, Christine (Aaron) Brown, Jackie (Rob) Webster and magical grandpa to 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, passed away peacefully on June 19th, 2022 at the age of 84 years, enveloped in the love of his family.

Dad was born in Lethbridge, AB to Arthur Fyfe and Mary Adamson on December 2, 1937, and grew up in Stirling with his siblings: Mervyn (deceased), Rena, Benny (deceased) and Bill (deceased). He was a hard worker, played all sports, loved to dance and when 5 years old, told his mom he was going to marry Myrna Hartley!

He loved the Saviour and His Gospel. He served a two year mission in Hawaii for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he met his life-long best friend, Joe Christensen; their reunion in Heaven will be a sweet one. Verl continued serving the Lord in every capacity he was called to for his entire life. He lived according to the commandments to love God and love your neighbour.

Verl married his childhood sweetheart, Myrna, on June 30, 1960 in the Cardston Temple. After living in Calgary for a short time they settled and built their life together in Coutts, which was their home for 55 years.

Community was very important to Verl. He served as mayor and on town council and was involved until having to move to Lethbridge for dialysis in 2016.

In 1965, Verl began his 20 year career with Canada Customs. After retiring from customs, he joined H.H. Smith Ltd Customs Brokers and worked there until 2001. He enjoyed all his working years immensely and his coworkers became some of his best friends.

A great love of the outdoors, a gift for understanding teenagers, a love of fast cars and a myriad of other characteristics made him an exceptional youth leader with the Boy Scouts of Canada and in the church.

Dad recently told us that he always asked himself, “Have I done any good in the world today?” It is obvious from the outpouring of love and stories since his passing that there is no doubt that he fulfilled his desire.

We are grateful to Dr. Wong, the Dialysis Team, Home Care and St. Mike’s Palliative Care. Dad received heartfelt care, which meant the world to him and to his family.

A Viewing and Visitation will be held on Friday, June 24th from 7:00-8:00 pm at Salmon and Sons Funeral Home, 433 Stubb Ross Rd, Lethbridge.

The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 25th at 11:00am (viewing from 10-10:45am) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, COUTTS CHAPEL. Interment will follow in the Stirling cemetery.

Dorothy Kienzle

Sept. 29, 1925 – Jun. 13, 2022

We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear mom. Surrounded by loving family, she passed away at The Good Samaritan Pembina Village on the evening of Monday June 13, 2022 at the age of 96 years.

Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed baking, travelling to many destinations and horseback riding. In her younger days she played baseball, which led to her love of the Blue Jays; watching the games with her are occasions that will be greatly missed.

Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children, DeEtta Caldwell (Andy Martel), Sharlene (Bob) Curlock, Gerry Kienzle, Marilynne (Reg) Stacey and Kevin (Betty) Kienzle; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice Losey, Della Walsh and Doris Gordon; daughters-in-law, Jane Kienzle and Marlys Kienzle; sister-in-law, Velma Kienzle, as well as by many extended family and life-long family friends.

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Elmer; sons, Darcy, Darrel and Wayne; daughters, Gloria and Beverly; brothers, Orville, Raymond, Arnold and Richard; daughter-in-law, Marilyn and son-in-law, Dave.

KATHERINE ANN NAGY

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Katherine Ann Nagy of Picture Butte, who passed away at the Sunny South Lodge with her daughters Pearl and Marline at her side on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at the age of 95 years.

Mom’s passion was singing, playing bingo, and playing games with the family.

Katherine will be dearly missed by her children Melvin (Lyla) Schmidt, Marline (Ken) Grayson, Pearl Blair, Vera Beausoleil, Christine (Delbert) Ritchey, Helen (Doug) Parenteau, Mike McCann, Debra Lewis, and her sister Helena Klassen. She will also be missed by her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her first husband Nicholas Schimdt (1987), her second husband William Nagy (1990), Mom and Dad Abraham & Katrina Fehr; her sister Agnes, 3 brothers and several extended family members.

A Come and Go Reception will be held between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the family’s residence, 1611- 21A Street, Coaldale, Alberta. Everyone who would like to pay their respects and join the family are welcome.

Anne Tetzlaff

1926 – 2022

On June 20, 2022, Anne peacefully departed this earthly world to be with her beloved husband.

Anne arrived in this world in Riga Latvia when her parents and siblings were fleeing Ukraine during the Russian invasion of Ukraine on December 04, 1926. After arriving in Canada, they eventually settled in Coaldale along with many other German immigrants.

She quickly became the interpreter in grade one as many of the students could speak only German. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and went on to attend the university of Alberta in the first year of its inception. She met her husband to be, Lyle while teaching in Warner in 1947 and they got married the following year. They had six children, Milton (Heather), Harvey (Hope), Roy (Loretta), Connie (John), Ken (Carole), and Tim (Violetta).

She is survived by 3 sisters, Laura (Eric), Louise (Werner) and Trudy (Henry) She leaves behind 19 grandkids whom she adored. Jeffrey, Jillienne, Shasta, Bryce, Corey and Kristopher (Milton), Carey, Tanya, Amanda, Lisa(deceased) and Justin (Roy), Anna, Aaron, and Stephen (Connie) Kevin and Laurie (Ken) Natasha, Nick and Alex (Tim) and numerous great grandchildren.

She spent nearly her entire life on the farm near Warner. She taught Sunday school for many years and throughout her years on the farm was unwavering in her dedication and support for her family. Upon one occasion, while questioning her if she ever had any second thoughts about never pursuing a professional career, she replied “I had a far more important job to do, raising and caring for my family”.

She will be sorely missed by all of those who loved her.

Mildred Thompson

1919 – 2022

Mrs. Mildred Thompson nee Anderson of Milk River, beloved wife of the late Mr. Leonard Thompson, passed away at Milk River Long Term Care Facility on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the age of 102 years. 37 days short of her 103 birthday.

Mildred was born east of Milk River at home to William and Mabel Anderson in Kippenville, Alberta on July 26, 1919 and spent all of her life in the Coutts, Milk River area. She married Leonard Thompson of Coutts on October 29, 1942. Mildred was very active in the Coutts United Church, the Royal Purple and the community. They retired to Milk River in October of 1981, after Leonard’s passing in 1998, she stayed in her home until spring of 2009 when she moved to Prairie Rose Lodge then on to the long term care in December of 2018.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband Leonard; grandson Leslie; grandson-in-law Jamie Packer; her family Harold (Kay) Anderson, Peggy (Bert) Wicks, Darrel (Jan) Anderson and all of Leonard’s siblings and their spouses.

Mildred is survived by her sons Kirt (Louise) Thompson, Roy (Sharon) Thompson; grandchildren Allen (Renai) Thompson, Sheila Thompson, Karen (Chris) House, Dan (Mary) Thompson, Scott (Debbie) Thompson, Todd (Jennifer) Thompson; 11 great- grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at the ST. PAUL’S UNITED CHURCH, 201 – 2 Avenue NE, Milk River, with Reverend Marion Martin, officiating. A private family graveside service will be held prior in the Milk River Cemetery.
