Bill Murray’s career as a stand-up comic began on Saturday Night Live.

He landed the role in the program’s second season in 1977 and won a Primetime Emmy for his writing on the show.

He went on to appear in films such as Meatballs, Caddyshack, and Stripes before obtaining a role in Ghostbusters, which became one of the highest-grossing pictures of the 1980s.

In 2016, the skilled actor was also awarded the Kennedy Center’s Mark Twain Prize for Humor.

Murray took a break from acting after the disaster of The Razor’s Edge in 1984 to study philosophy and history at the Sorbonne University in Paris, then returned in 1988 to play in Scrooged and Ghostbusters II in 1989.

He was nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA for the performance.

He went on to appear in a slew of more films and developed a talent for voice acting.
