Today: March of the Penguins 2: The Next Step
Hi everybody, our planet is still full of life and we should keep it that way. So even the more prominent animals have mysterious story's to tell, the secret language of the penguin flirtation that Jaquet is capturing is one of these everlasting secrets that we could witness in the first "March of the Penguins". Now the instalment tries again to transport us into the harsh life of the emperor penguin and his never changing fight to breathe new life into this cold, inhospitable world. To be precise, the temperature goes easily down to -50° and less and is only one aspect why the…
Where the absolute ur e fuck is March of the penguins ONE. THE ORIGINAL. HOW DO YOY HAVE TGE SEQUEL AND NO RIGINAL? I HATE DISNET
It’s been nearly 13 years since Luc Jacquet’s Oscar winning documentary March of the Penguins debuted in theaters, and I remember seeing it twice while it was playing (I was a kid at the time). While documentaries were not my thing back then (and I’m still not too crazy about them, unless the subject matter interests me), I enjoyed it, and not for the narrative, but because of the penguins themselves, as well as Morgan Freeman’s excellent narration. I ended up getting the DVD as a gift when it became available back then, and I’ve watched it a few times since (though I have not viewed it in years). So when I heard that they were doing a sequel, I…
Even if this film is somewhat similar to the first, this is a worthy follow up. Seeing the penguins of Antarctica in 4K really made this one a great experience. Just the shots underwater are a behold to look at. If you have a Hulu subscription and you enjoy nature documentaries, this is one you shouldn’t miss.
Morgan Freeman can really narrate anything, can’t he?
Good follow up to the 2005 documentary, even if not quite as good (need to revisit it honestly).
UPDATE: FULL REVIEW
Masterpiece, I'd like to congratulate the great performance of the actors.
Tengo ganas de seguir los pasos del director y crear la tercera película.
This movie's fine. Morgan Freeman narrates again, though he sounds less into it this time. The first half of it is something of a rehash of the first March of the Penguins, but by the latter half it focuses more on the penguin chick's experience of growing into adulthood. In constrast, the first movie was about the parental experience, and the narration even tried to sell it as a movie about "love." There's less of that pretense here; it's more matter-of-fact about the parents separating after the chick has grown up enough to be independent, with all family members likely never to encounter each other again. Once again the life of the emperor penguin is shown to be extremely challenging…
I’d never seen the original film, which is probably why I enjoyed March of the Penguins 2 as much as I did. Evidently, it’s almost the same film as the first, banking on the fact that few people get tired of watching these remarkable creatures.
The cinematography is incredible, giving a big picture view of Antartica and injecting some thoughtful commentary on climate change. But the most breathtaking part is the penguins themselves, and the way the documentary highlights the majesty produced by hundreds of thousands of years of evolution. They’re a wonder to behold, and the film does an excellent job highlighting their remarkable adaptations to such a grim environment.
Beautifully shot, with a wonderful score, and narrated once again by Morgan Freeman (a man whose voice instantly elevates any project), this follow-up to MARCH OF THE PENGUINS is mostly more of the same, but still a joy to watch.
