As the Girls in Green prepare to compete in their first ever World Cup in July, Ireland players Áine O’Gorman and Saoirse Noonan chat to RSVP about making history, what going to Australia means to them, and why Irish fans are the best There has been a renewed sense of interest for the women’s team since Vera Pauw became manager in 2019.

The Dutch coach has taken this team to new heights – highlights include Ireland beating Georgia with a record-breaking score of 11-0 back in 2021. Vera backs herself as a coach, but most importantly, backs our team and this confidence has made a huge difference.

Speaking at a panel event with Sky, who sponsor the women’s team, to celebrate the launch of the Sky WNT Fund, she said: “Our slogan is ‘nothing is impossible’. Something is only impossible if that’s what you choose to believe. Sky’s campaign tells us to ‘outbelieve’, which means that this team does something that others don’t expect us to do. You need to believe in something more than what you believe is possible and have the guts to go beyond your comfort zone. That’s exactly what this team has done.”
