Man of Steel 2: Everything we know so far

Fans have been speculating about Henry Cavill’s anticipated sequel Man of Steel 2, so here’s everything we know about it.

It’s been nearly 10 years since Henry Cavill first debuted as Superman in Man of Steel, Zack Snyder’s controversial take on the classic hero. He returned in Batman v Superman, before showing up with a nightmarish blurred face in Joss Whedon’s Justice League.

Snyder righted the wrongs of the theatrical release with his cut of Justice League, putting Cavill in the black suit and giving him the resurrection he deserved.

Following Batgirl’s cancelation and his cameo in Black Adam, it seemed like Cavill had returned… but that may not be the case, so here’s what we know about Man of Steel 2.

Is there a Man of Steel 2 release date?

Unfortunately, Man of Steel 2 will not be happening any time soon, if at all.

After Cavill revealed that he would be returning to the role in October 2022 after his cameo appearance in Black Adam, it looks like his dream was short lived as the new heads of the DCU, James Gunn and Peter Safan, have a different vision for the character that doesn’t include Cavill.

Gunn and Safran’s new Superman movie will see the hero as a young reporter in the beginning of his superhero career, which unfortunately left no room for Cavill as he would be much older than their version of Clark Kent.

Man of Steel 2 cast: Who’s in it?

If Man of Steel 2 went ahead, we would’ve seen Henry Cavill as Superman.

Of course, Amy Adams would’ve return as Lois Lane and many other characters from Snyder’s DCEU movies, like Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, and Harry Lennix as Martian Manhunter, would’ve returned as well.

Earlier reports said the movie would’ve been produced by Charles Roven and Warner Bros. was on the hunt for writers, with Mission: Impossible’s Christopher McQuarrie at the top of the wishlist after his collaboration with Cavill on Fallout.

But unfortunately, due to the unforeseen take over by Gunn and Safan, those dreams have been dashed.

Do we know anything about Man of Steel 2’s plot?

There is no official plot for Man of Steel 2 at this time or in the future.

In an interview with Collider last year, Cavill said: “I felt like Man of Steel was a wonderful opening story, an origin story to Superman. It left a lot of space for him to grow beyond that and become the hero that we recognize.

“Batman v Superman took a hard turn down a darker route and it was a Batman perspective story and so it didn’t really show the aspects of Superman which I was very, very keen to show. Justice League Snyder Cut definitely leant into that a bit more.

If Man of Steel 2 was to ever happen, it would probably take a look at Superman’s more gentle, compassionate side after the traumatic events of the first movie.
