Maine East High School Reviews
Rating 3.93 out of 5 410 reviews
Maine East was a very good school for me! I enjoyed my time a lot, as there was lots of actives. I was born in Palestine, and with my previous school I felt like I couldn't relate to most people. With Maine East being a very diverse school, students coming from all over the world. It felt like home more than anything. They would do actives for certain cultures. The teachers were super patient with everyone and there was lots of recourses to use. Overall the 3 years I spent there were one of my favorites years of life.
Maine East has a very diverse student body and lots of great school events. The teachers truly care about their student's success and will do everything to help. The school has many different resources to help students prepare for college such as counselors assigned to each student. There are many different clubs to choose from, and it is fairly easy to start a new one if you aren't interested in the existing ones. They offer a variety of AP classes as well as regular classes. They have a great electives program that offers many courses in specific job fields that help a student explore their interests. Along with these courses they offer great classrooms equipped with materials and machines needed for a hands-on learning experience such as CAD software and CNC machines for engineering classes. The cafeteria offers good food; however, the lines can get very long during lunch times. Overall, this is a good high school in the Park Ridge Area.
My experience has been mostly positive at Maine East. Almost all teachers are very supportive during classes and office hours via one-on-one help and guidance through specific problems, and many care for both the academic and emotional well-being of students. There are also many clubs, and the ability to establish them, for students' interests. Something I find troubling, however, is that the administration has made detrimental changes to the class schedules, and as a result, teachers have had to modify their curriculum by cutting out lessons. Instead of an 8 period day, our classes are split between two days: one day we have our odd period classes, and the next we have our even. This system has been heavily criticized, especially by math and science teachers who want students to learn much and succeed. Another significant issue is advisory, which is supposed to serve as SEL time, however, no students are engaged and it ends up being a half-hour of wasted of time.
