This man touches my soul. He's a clever storyteller in a shy, unassuming, lanky package. His poetry and voice are a brilliant pairing. Lyle's intimate lyric writing, peppered with homey imagery and clever word play, really float my musical boat... If I had a boat.

Here, you'll find country, Texas swing, blues, and jazz, melded together exquisitely. Moreover, his gravelly soft voice is perfectly complimented in this big band and smaller ensemble context.

Highlights include "Here I Am", "Nobody Knows Me", and "I Married Her Just Because She Looks Like You". And the jazz musician in me can't help but smile that the opener is a Clifford Brown tune.

Recording is super clean and what an undertaking it was to mix so many instruments cleanly. Pressing is decent enough, a little inner groove distortion on A6, otherwise no issues and good details.

Not many records earn all 5 stars from me. Grab this and see for yourself.

Lyle and his large band come through as always with great songs and music. Unfortunately the pressing has constant background crackle. Tried 2 copies with the same result on both.

Half swingin', half twangin'. This is the kind of album LPs and cassettes were made for.

My copy matches this on all counts, except the etchings say MCA-8511-MI-4 - not MCA-8511-MI-2, as mentioned above. I'm new to all of this, so maybe that's normal. Can anyone help me make sense of that?

I have this as part of a limited edition numbered box set along with 'Lyle Lovett' MCF 3361 and 'Pontiac' MCF 3389. Also comes with a general release one-sided info sheet the same size as the vinyl. There is no official separate catalogue number for the box. It just has a numbered sticker as a seal saying 'LYLE LOVETT PRESENTATION BOX'. Will put up photos later. Not sure how to link all 3 lp's together though for this site...
