When Ludwig III Leopold Joseph von Wittelsbach, King of Bavaria was born on 7 January 1845, in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, his father, Prinzregent Luitpold Karl Joseph Wilhelm von Bayern von Hohenstaufen-Wittelsbach Römischer Kaiser, König von Bayern und Pfalzgraf, was 23 and his mother, Augusta Ferdinanda Luisa Maria von Habsburg-Lothringen VON SAVOIA-ITALIA UND VON BAYERN VON WITTELSBACH, was 19. He married Maria Theresia von Österreich-Este Archduchess of Österreich-Este, Princess of Modena on 20 February 1868, in Vienna, Austria. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 9 daughters. He died on 18 October 1921, in Sárvár, Vas, Hungary, at the age of 76, and was buried in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.
