Louis I the Black (German: Ludwig I. der Schwarze) (1424 - 19 July 1489) was the Duke of Zweibrücken from 1444 until 1489.

Life[]

Louis was born in 1424 as the younger son of Stephen, Count Palatine of Simmern and Zweibrücken. In 1444 his father divided his territories between Louis and his elder brother Frederick; Louis received the areas around Hunsrück, Donnersberg, Zweibrücken, and the County of Veldenz from his mother's inheritance. He established his court at Meisenheim.

Louis died in 1489 and was buried in Meisenheim church.

Marriage[]

Louis married Joanna of Croÿ, daughter of Baron Anthony I the Grand, in Luxembourg on 20 March 1454 and had the following children:
