I've had a great high school experience at Los Gatos High School. We have a very involved, spirited community amongst the student body and parents that extends to the town of Los Gatos. It's been a safe, fun environment with supportive staff, teachers and coaches. Our campus is beautiful with a lot of history. While I've been a student, we've been very competitive at multiple sports, inspiring school spirit and school pride. I feel lucky to be an LG Wildcat!
Overall, I believe my school community to be very privileged, as we have excellent staff, classes, and facilities that help aid our learning. While our campus remains very safe for the most part and there are efforts being made to encourage positive school culture, our school has a reputation of sexual violence and substance abuse. I would like to see this addressed better at school. This only recently began being addressed my senior year (this year) through short video lessons, but the students including myself don’t really see the value in these lessons. I hope there comes better ways for our student community to encourage each other to do good. Our sports programs are amazing and some of my best memories come from my field hockey team, which created a sisterly bond between the players. Our school teams work hard for each other and end up achieving amazing results.
I attended LGHS from 2017-2021, and during my time there, the pandemic and quarantine happened, multiple students were exposed online for being racist and subsequently doxxed by our own classmates, and our football team became known as a group of racist sexual predators. Numerous members of the football team were accused of sexual assault, but one survivor was bullied so relentlessly that she transferred schools. Six black students attended Los Gatos my senior year despite the school serving over 2,000 students. They were made fun of, and a video of our football team yelling racist chants and making fun of black students was released (though those in the video faced any consequences).
While at LGHS, I was given seemingly endless opportunities. The academics were top notch, there were clubs for every hobby or interest you could imagine, the music program was highly supported, and electives available were numerous and high quality.
