Childhood & Early Life
Lochlyn Munro was born Richard Laughlain Munro, on February 12, 1966, in Lac La Hache, British Columbia, Canada. Lochlyn grew up with his siblings in his middle-class family. The family struggled financially from time to time. Lochlyn considers his father his biggest hero, as he never let his children face any trouble despite their poor financial condition.
While he was in school, Lochlyn aspired to become a professional hockey player and to be part of the ‘National Hockey League’ (NHL). Though he was quite good at hockey, an unfortunate injury struck him when he was 18 years old. This thrashed his dreams of playing professional hockey. Thus, after graduating high school, his dreams of a college hockey career ended.
However, there was a silver lining to his injury. It made him pursue acting seriously. He had always been a film buff and loved reading novels. He was slightly inclined toward music, too.
During his university years, Lochlyn played music for a few bands and performed at a few local Vancouver-based clubs to earn some additional money. He also enrolled into acting classes and trained in drama and improvisational comedy.
One of his teachers in his acting classes was famed actor Susan Strasberg. Lochlyn started acting in theater and did many stage plays before he considered a career on screen. He then moved to Los Angeles in the late 1980s and started auditioning for TV and film roles.
