Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.

This place is amazing. Wonderful view from the terrace and very impressive inside. The history/story of the art in the museum is fascinating - part of it was returned to family after Nazis stole it to only be taken again in 1948 and finally return when Czechoslovakia became free in 1989. Amazing to see original manuscripts by Beethoven and Mozart. We ended up being the only 2 to sign up for our tour with Viking so had a private lunch (goulash) and concert with just the 2 of us.

A pleasant surprise this place, competing against all the other delights of the Castle area atop Prague. The audio tour is a must, with members of the Lobkowicz family narrating (included free with the Prague Card). We could hear a live classical concert in one of the rooms, a nice backdrop (can be booked with entry ticket). Rooms are well presented and filled with treasures. Best of all, it feels personal to the family who lives there.
Fabulous panorama view of Prague from the terrace was a bonus.
We had lunch in their Cafe, which enjoyable too.

The 16th Century Lobkowicz Palace is a must for a Prague visit, reflecting the wealth, power and influence of a family entwined for centuries with the Czech Republic and historical events.

The only privately owned owned building in the Prague Castle Complex, the palace was confiscated by the Nazis in 1939, along with other Lobkowicz properties. It was returned with the end of WWII, but quickly seized by the Communists as they took control.

The Velvet Revolution began a restitution process that returned ownership to the Lobokowitz family in 2002 and its opening to the public after extensive restoration to the public. While "private" the Lobkowicz family has opened the palace to the public, food for cultural tourists, education, research and a space to slide back into another era.

The palace reflect the culture of its time and the connections to European nobility and royals, multinationals before corporations. . There are 22 galleries or significant rooms with notable paintings of European Artists from the Lowlands to Italy to Spain. Daily concerts are a natural fit give hand-annotated compostions from the greatest composers of the 17th to 19th centuries. Beethoven? Yes. Also Mozart, Haydn and others. Exceptional ceramics, paintings reflect the families ties to art and royal houses.

The armory could provide fireams for a small army, historic varied weapons span the era from the early 1700s. The Lobkowicz maintain a Facebook page and a separate website worth looking at.

BE CAREFUL! In their official website in the English version, there is possibility to book a so-called "TOUR". There is NO information that there is not tour available just audioguide! The website states that the tour starts 10am at Lobkowicz Palace. So, they let you book some tickets of high price (while thinking that you are booking a real guided tour starting 10am), just to get an entrance ticket with audioguide which you can use any other moment in the day than 10am. I spent 20 or more minutes in their websites trying to figure it out!

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are sorry that you felt the website terminology for an admission tour ticket to the Lobkowicz Palace was misleading. We offer visitors tickets to tour the Museum (which includes the free, family-narrated audio guide), but we do not offer guided tours (unless specially requested). Our website states our general Museum and Café opening hours (10:00–18:00); however, this is not a designated start time for guided tours. We hope that on your next visit, you can enjoy more that the Lobkowicz Palace has to offer. With kind regards,

If you visit, do take the included headphones and listen to the narrative. Most is done by the current generation of Lobkowicz family members and quite interesting. Frankly, I think this museum would be significantly less interesting without the narrative. They discuss the family and share some of their art collection. It is at the end of the castle area but it is not included on the castle ticket. It is worth the extra price.

Well worth an hour to wander round. An interesting audio tour on my phone was well worth downloading although was a bit glitchy- and sadly the musical instrument section was mistakenly in Czech in the English tour :(. Super to hear the family talk about their ancestry and enjoyed the objects they had on display as well as some beautiful art. A wonderful view from the balcony over the city was mesmerising.

Take a slow stroll up to the palace and join a few members of the Philharmonic orchestra for an afternoon of classical favourites in a beautifully decorated gilt chamber. You will be transported to another time and place. A wonderful experience for lovers of fine music, or even those just curious to see inside the palace. Make sure to book ahead, it's popular

I loved it all. A fantasic museum experience and no regrets on paying for entry. The audio guide is the best I have experienced as a seasoned museum visitor. The staff were fantastic and basically nothing to fault- its a must do and a great addition to the Prague Castle experience

In the Castle complex, the Lobkowicz Palace has been turned into a museum. It’s a fairly nice palace, not at the top tier, though. The collection of paintings mainly includes pictures of the inhabitants through the centuries. If you read about them, it was a somewhat interesting history, but as artwork, well let’s just say after probably 40, 50 portraits, it’s gets a little tedious. The rest of the collection is pretty nice. We probably spent more time than we should have, but what made the visit truly worthwhile was the view of Prague from the balcony. Wow, spectacular is probably understated. I told the worker in the room where the balcony was attached that it was probably the best view of a city I ever saw. Her response, that’s what almost everyone says. We probably stayed gawking at that view for 15, maybe 20 minutes. Then we went down to the cafe balcony downstairs for a nice, but lesser view. If you go to the Castle complex and of course you will, then you really need to see the view, if not the museum. It’s trip malpractice not to.

This was a palace that was in the Lobkowicz family for many generations. When we were there, we listened to a lovely classical music concert. We were given audio boxes to listen to a self guided tour of the palace. There were many historical items donated from the family. The palace is high on a hill and overlooks the city.
