    "Arguably the greatest 'neo-soul' artist aside from maybe Frank Ocean, D'Angelo ran with the 'quality over quantity' ideal quite literally in his quite sparse and concise discography and has largely paid off given how great his three albums and every song on them are. Given how even the soul greats and other comparison points like Prince had mountains of filler and lesser tracks in their repertoire, you could call D'Angelo an anomaly given how perfect everything sounds and how consistent his work is and the fact he hasn't stagnated and added more conscious themes in his latest album Black Messiah shows progression even on his glacial pace. It's just a lot of fun listening to this guy, plain and simple."
