Lionsgate Television Group: A Leading 3rd-Party Supplier of Premium Programming

Lionsgate’s television business encompasses more than 100 shows spanning dozens of platforms. Its success is driven by contributions from: its LGTV scripted operations; world-leading talent management and production company 3 Arts Entertainment; global content platform eOne; unscripted powerhouse Pilgrim Media Group; and syndication leader Debmar-Mercury. Lionsgate Television is a top developer, producer and 3rd-party supplier of premium programming to streaming, broadcast, cable, AVOD and FAST channels while also serving as a prolific source of premium scripted series for STARZ. The studio’s ability to create bespoke content and innovative business models has led to relationships with every major buyer, including current hits: Ghosts for CBS, one of the top half-hour comedies on television; Mythic Quest and Acapulco for Apple TV+; the John Wick prequel event The Continental for Peacock and Amazon Prime; Love & Death, the most watched limited series on HBO’s Max; and the top five series on STARZ, P-Valley, BMF, Ghost, Raising Kanan and Force. Lionsgate Television also has thriving international co-production partnerships with BBC Studios and Channel 4 in the UK, Bell Media in Canada, and Stan in Australia, among others. The studio’s creative signature is evident in iconic series such as Mad Men, one of the most acclaimed shows in television history, the ground-breaking Orange is the New Black, Weeds, Nurse Jackie and Nashville, many of which are being extended into fresh installments. Lionsgate television series have garnered 392 Emmy® nominations, 47 Emmys®, 359 Golden Globe® nominations and 60 Golden Globe® wins. To accommodate its film and television output, the studio is expanding its production footprint to include studio facilities in Yonkers, NY, Newark, NJ, and metropolitan Atlanta, GA, incorporating a total of 18 state-of-the-art sound stages when fully operational.

Acquisition of eOne Further Strengthens Lionsgate’s Content Businesses

Lionsgate acquired the global entertainment platform eOne from Hasbro in December 2023. The transaction adds thousands of titles to the Lionsgate library, strengthens the Company’s scripted and unscripted television business, and expands its portfolio of brands and franchises to include the ABC hit series The Rookie, the critically-acclaimed Showtime hit Yellowjackets, the long-running unscripted series Naked And Afraid and film development rights to the beloved Hasbro brand Monopoly. It also strengthens the studio’s longstanding roots in Canada and expands its presence in the UK.

STARZ: A Premium Global Subscription Platform With a Focused Content Strategy Driving Continued Growth & Profitability

STARZ is one of the world’s leading premium subscription services. Its programming slate of fiercely bold, original content is focused on women and underrepresented audiences, two valuable and scalable core demos. This targeted content strategy has allowed STARZ to create tent-poles such as the critically-acclaimed drama P-Valley, three hit installments of the growing Power Universe franchise (Ghost, Raising Kanan and Force), the crime drama BMF and fan favorite Outlander, with five series attracting more than eight million multiplatform viewers apiece. STARZ’s original series are complemented by a large and growing slate of first-run studio movies. The network’s success in delivering popular hit programming to its core audiences has allowed STARZ to pivot successfully to the digital world with more than 60% of its subscribers and revenue coming from streaming. Overall, nearly 90% of STARZ’s digital and linear subscribers are now a la carte customers, incentivizing the service and its distribution partners to work closely together on continued growth. On the distribution front, STARZ continues to execute on its core strategy of being a complementary premium add-on service to every platform and a bundling partner of choice in an evolving marketplace. A critical element of STARZ’s culture and strategy is #TakeTheLead, a multi-faceted inclusion initiative launched in 2021 to continue to expand the service’s commitment to improve representation on screen, behind the camera and throughout the company.

One of the World’s Largest and Most Valuable Film and Television Libraries

Lionsgate’s 20,000+ title film and television library is one of the largest and most valuable in the world. It reported record fiscal 2023 trailing 12 month revenue of $884 million, driven by its two best revenue quarters ever. The studio’s library continues to become more diversified, with nearly 20% of its revenue coming from “long tail” properties outside the top 500 titles. The library is continually replenished organically, through acquisitions like the 2022 purchase of the Spyglass Media Group library and the December 2023 acquisition of eOne, and through representation of third parties such as STX Entertainment and the Quentin Tarantino films Kill Bill Vols. I & II and Jackie Brown. In addition to the library, the Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution Group distributes current properties from the studio’s Motion Picture and Television Groups as well as select STARZ original series to over 250 clients, encompassing SVOD, AVOD, linear and free TV platforms.
