Bobby Brown is back. The R&B singer returns to the music scene for the first time in six years with his new single, “Like Bobby.” The Boston-bred musician enlisted collaborators Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Teddy Riley, who worked with Brown to create songs such as “Roni” and “Every Little Step,” as well as the album Don’t Be Cruel.
The cover art features a silhouette of Brown during his early years as a solo star, and the track features blaring horns and a bass unlike any other. The fiery track finds the musician shaking off the haters and the gossipers in order to tell everyone why he’s here to stay despite the controversies and stories that follow him.
“They don’t even know the situation,” he croons before the chorus. “In the end, g*ddamn, I gotta be real like Bobby B.”
The track comes just a few days after his two-part biopic The Bobby Brown Story aired on BET. According to reports, the movie, which starred Woody McClain as the former New Edition star, garnered a combined total of 6.6 million viewers. It chronicled his life as a solo sensation, his high-profile and tumultuous marriage to Whitney Houston, and his journey to becoming a better man.
