While every Scream movie is unique, audiences can expect a memorable Ghostface reveal, at least one fight scene involving Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), and some funny quotes about the horror genre. Now that Kevin Williamson is directing Scream 7 and Campbell is reprising her famous final girl role, fans have thoughts about the worst Ghostface and who should appear in the next movie. Although Campbell is the only confirmed cast member at this time, there is talk of Courteney Cox coming back to play intelligent and ambitious reporter Gale Weathers once again.

If Sidney and Gale are back together again in Scream 7, it's likely that they will be on Ghostface's short list. Considering that Kevin Williamson once shared his plan for fan favorite character Dewey Riley (David Arquette), it seems possible that amain character could die in the next movie. Could it be one of these two popular final girls?

Kevin Williamson's Dewey Plan Could Mean Sidney Or Gale Will Die In Scream 7

Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley in Scream

In 2022, Kevin Williamson was interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter and shared that Dewey Riley was meant to die in Scream. Whether fans believe that Dewey's Scream (2022) death was a mistake or not, it was definitely a big moment for the franchise and proof that no one is safe from Ghostface.

It's possible that, given that Williamson has thought about major characters dying before, Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers could be killed in Scream 7. These types of big swings can sometimes work and can sometimes be disappointing for fans who have invested in these characters since the beginning. There's no doubt that fans would be shocked and upset if the next Ghostface in Scream 7 finally beat Sidney and Gale given how much effort they have put into surviving so far.

Williamson explained that when he decided that Dewey would live, he knew that Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) should die in Scream 2. He said:

"And so the very second that Dewey lived in Scream one, it was R.I.P. for Randy in Scream 2 , because we had to kill a legacy. We had to kill someone that was involved with Scream one, and that was done halfway through so that we could up the stakes. I also wanted to upset the audience and make them mad at the killer."

Sidney or Gale getting killed in Scream 7 would be even more surprising than Randy's Scream 2 death because they are the two final girls that audiences care about. If one of these legacy characters was going to die, many would guess that it could be Sidney. For one thing, it's highly unlikely that both Sidney and Gale would be killed. For another, many fans are debating whether Sidney should be killed in Scream 7 because it would be a shocking yet unforgettable way to end her arc.

Whether Sidney, Gale, or another major character is killed in Scream 7 also seems dependent on whether the creative team behind Scream wants to make more movies. Since Gale survived Scream 6, she should also survive Scream 7 and make it to Scream 8 if it exists. But while killing a major character makes a strong statement that Ghostface is more dangerous than ever before and everyone's lives are at risk, killing Sidney and Gale in Scream 7 would backfire. Fans would be upset, and after all the changes that happened before the two big updates on Scream 7, that doesn't seem like a good idea.

Which Major Characters Died In The Scream Franchise?

Sidney and Tatum in Scream

It makes sense that Scream fans are wondering if a major character like Sidney Prescott or Gale Weathers will die in Scream 7 considering that many significant Scream characters have been killed.

One of the saddest Scream deaths was Sidney's best friend Tatum Riley (Rose McGowan), who dies in Scream after getting stuck in a garage door at a party at Randy's house. Randy's Scream 2 death is also upsetting and disappointing since his meta conversations about the horror genre are so important. Both of these deaths emphasize that Sidney is always in danger and that Ghostface wants to manipulate her and make her lose people close to her. It's a sad sign that Sidney will never be able to fully escape this threat.

Who Are Some Important Characters Who Died In The Scream Franchise?

  • Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), Scream
  • Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard), Scream
  • Cotton Weary (Liev Schreiber), Scream 3
  • Kate Roberts (Mary McDonnell), Scream 4
  • Sheriff Judy Hicks (Marley Shelton), Scream (2022)
  • Anika Kayoko (Devyn Nekoda), Scream 6

The fact that Sidney and Gale have survived this long proves that there is no reason to change that in Scream 7. Just like Scream 7 should avoid mistakes made in Scream 3, the next installment in the popular horror franchise needs to allow these two main characters to live. Other character deaths at the hands of Ghostface will still be impactful.
