Lying never solved anything especially for Fletcher Director Tom Shadyac makes one Jim Carrey's biggest comedies of the 1990s Here he plays a lawyer that's so caught up in his job he forgets about his ex wife and son's needs on a daily basis Fletcher has so much going on he has no choice but to lie to make up for it His son Max for his birthday is so desperate to have his father back that he makes a wish; for an entire day Fletcher cannot lie This turns into a big nightmare for him as he can't get through one second of it getting him into trouble Worse is that his firm assigns him a case for him to avoid telling the truth But maybe Fletcher could learn from all the fibs he's been making up Jim Carrey utilizes his comic timing in every way here even with a premise as simple as this A man who bends the truth to his will goes through the ultimate ordeal coming to terms with his actions Even the custody case he's working on gives him a sense of clarity of how his own role as a parent is The music is all kinds of wacky with Carrey doing physical movements every chance he gets This ends up being more entertaining than you'd think Everyone lies but there's a limit, telling the truth is risky but noble, we can't manipulate the system to our own needs, children are not leverage Thin plot aside Jim Carrey shines his best here and he's an actual human we care about going from selfish to lovable and redeeming The man's performance tickling the funny bone is infectious after 25 years

Especially recommended for those who doubted the legitimacy of Jim Carrey's star-power in the '90s. Wisely, Liar Liar keeps the main focus on comedy instead of reaching for drama. But the screenplay still manages to sprinkle in a few effective "serious" moments...to go with all the laughs.

Even nearly 30 years later, after watching it for the 100th time, Liar Liar is still funny. On top of that, it also manages to convey a positive message about lying and broken promisses, while also making you think how the world would be, if people said what they are truly thinking all the time, instead of speaking through the filters that society and survival needs impose on us all. It only works because of Jim Carrey's once in a generation talent though. Anyone else in this movie and the mediocre story would quickly impose itself over the comedy. It once again proves why he is one of the best to ever do it.

Liar Liar es agradable de ver gracias a Jim Carrey, es uno de los poco actores que puede hacer a cualquier película divertida y nada tediosa; y esta película no es la excepción su personaje Over The Top es increíble, teniendo un gran contraste el situar a un personaje tan fuera de sí en el mundo real (cómo los clásicos personajes de Jim Carrey) es una fórmula que no caduca. La trama es muy circular y aunque al final tenga algunas sorpresas desde la presentación ya conoces la motivación del protagonista y su impedimento que tendrá que superar; siendo un abogado que por estar inmenso en su trabajo perdió su matrimonio y ahora podría perder el estar cera de su hijo cuando sale la posibilidad de que el nuevo novio de su exesposa los lleve fuera de la ciudad. El dilema moral del personaje se centra en la mentira, siendo esta clave en el conflicto interno de Fletcher, y el cómo el usarla excesivamente ha hecho que haya defraudado a todos los cercanos a él. Hasta que nuevamente al no cumplir sus promesas hacen que en el cumpleaños de su hijo pida cómo deseo el que su padre sea honesto por un día. Siendo en el segundo acto donde se establecen todas las trabas que ello podría conllevar, pudiendo ser una crítica de lo superficial y mundano del contacto humano en la sociedad actual, y cómo todos de cierta manera somos actores a la hora de expresarnos con otras personas, que tan honestos somos en el día a día y trayendo la interrogante del que tan honestos en verdad tenemos que ser, ya que si ambas son llevadas al extremo pueden hacer que lastimemos a otros, y me parece que ahí es dónde está el motor de la película, el situar la verdad y la mentira en un punto medio, siendo más realista que el inclinarse por lo "correcto" que en teoría tendría que ser la verdad. Pero siento que la película se vuelve interesante cuando plantea los diferentes escenarios en los que tenemos que pre disponernos a tener una respuesta adecuada para cada situación ya sea en verdad en lo que estamos pensando o en lo que se supondría que tendríamos que decir, ya sea por beneficio nuestro o para no hacer sentir mal a otras personas. En el tercer acto la película se desarrolla para llegar a una resolución del conflicto más "convencional". Aprendiendo la lección el protagonista, dejando der ser egoísta y sínico y recuperando a su familia por ser una mejor versión de si mismo. Y lo reitero, es simple, pero funciona. La película no busca ser más de lo que puede ser y aunque podríamos encasillara me parece que siempre hacen falta películas así, simples que directamente se centren en el conflicto y tengan una resolución favorable tanto para el espectador cómo para los personajes en sí. La Película podrá pecar de ser en extremo plana y sin una evolución más precisa con su protagonista y dejando a personajes secundarios con estereotipos en su actuar cómo buenos o malos sin una profundidad real, pero está bien, la trama sabe cómo empatizar con el espectador y funciona, es entretenida y el carisma de Jim Carrey es lo suficientemente atractivo para hacer que te pases un buen rato sin pretensiones, simplemente una película para pasar un buen rato.
